I have the same kinds of things happen to me... odd small itchy swelling patterns that seem to happen out of the blue. The one i am going through at this moment, as i am typing this post, is an itchy bump on the palm side of my wrist about the size of a quarter. At first, i thought it was just a bit of dry itchy skin from my house being too hot during the cold season. But after a little while i noticed it was a lump, a pinkish lump on my wrist. I took a shower and washed it and then applied moisturizer after the shower. The itching has subsided, but the lump is still there. And as many of you here on this blog, i too have no idea how this stuff happens. Im not allegic to much of anything, i haven't gotten into anything that may cause itching and swelling. I am not exactly a healthy horse, but all my vitals say im fine. It weird. The lump seems to have manifested out of no where. I mean sure there was the itching, but a lump that resembles a bump on the head appearing on my wrist?! It has happened to other places such as my upper lip and areas around my ankle. Same M.O.... slight itchy swelling that appears spontaneously. Even odder about this, it last a few hours or so, and disappears. Somewhere, i got to find a meaning to this.

I'm not alone in this unexplained-widespread-swelling-phenomena. I am a bit surprised that this disease, whatever it is, hasn't been properly discovered and/or diagnosed.
I'm a 28 year old female and I've had random body swelling for over past 10 years or so. My feet (different parts and sides), knees, fingers, hands, arms, lips (upper and lower), everything. I've been misdiagnosed with everything. Finally went to a Hereditary Angioedema specialist (Dr. Marc Reidl) at the HAE center in San Diego to find out that they classify this aliment as idiopathic angioedema. Antihistamines to help control the symptoms. For me, stress definitely triggers the swelling attacks. Physical or mental stress. Sleep also gives way to attacks; I've awaken from sleep (even short naps) with swollen or tingling lips, hands, feet etc. Doc says that when you're asleep your cortisol levels drop, giving rise to attacks. No cure, just management. And unfortunately, it's hard to manage if you are constantly swelling up in random places.

l have experienced the same symptoms as well. this problem stated 7 years ago but now the itching is more regular than ever all over my body. The swelling takes place mostly on the mouth, hips, wrist and hands. I have gone for blood and allergies test and they said lm allergic to potatoes. Its now a year since i stopped eating anything with potatoes but the condition still persist. I have noticed that exposure to wet, hot, cold weather triggers the itchiness and swelling specially when the temperatures of all weather conditions are on the extremes. I am a Zimbabwean lady residing in Zimbabwe aged 33.

I'm a 15 year old girl called Beth and I've have to experienced a lot of swelling. In the summer I have experienced having a swollen lip for about 4 days, it went after taking anti-hitzamines each couple of hours. Going back 1-2 months I had really itchy hands and feet after playing golf but like 5 minutes after they were completely swollen, you couldn't even see the creases along my knuckles. I know it was due to any bites or exposed skin since I was wearing suitable shoes with socks and I was wearing gloves. About 24 hours later it was gone. About 2 weeks after I was ill, and as I hadn't eaten barely anything i know I'm not allergic to food. And when the bug started to clear up I woke up one morning with swollen lips. I'd taken an anti-hizemaine to calm it down. After I taken the tablet I went down to this craft show with my mum and I was finding it difficult to breath because it really hurt to. We got to the craft show I was still the same and I was drove straight to a walk in centre but they didn't have any Doctors's in on Saturdays, they could only sort you out if you had a minor injury. So we had to call a hospital to make an appointment for later that day. About an hour later my lips got more intense, my eyes started to blur but my breathing became normal again, yet it still did hurt a bit. I was told by the doctors later that day to take 6 tablets a day for 4 days. And take 2 teaspoons of medicine she prescripted to take every 4 hours and I was given two epi pens, one to carry around with me and one with the school. She then told us the anti-histamine I had taken in the morning saved my life because if I didn't take it, there could of been a chance I could of died, due to how swollen my throat was. Anyway Yesterday I was playing golf and my eyes were swelling and I taken a tablet and ignored it. It was gone the next morning (today). But I went to school and one of my eyes were watering consistently, it became very puffy and very swollen. I decided to try and ride it out, but by 4th lesson my maths teacher and 5 other friends were telling me I had to get it sorted because it looked like an apple - it was pink. I went to student reception, and my throats swelled up a little. My dad refused to have me home because I was missing out on school because I've been going to all these appointments and check ups act. And now as I'm home my lips are beginning to swell. So please if you find out what this is please get back to me. Thanks!

Beth - 52 years ago 6 weeks after birth of my first child, I went through a very similar ordeal. Doctors never did find out what was causing it. Birth control pills were new to the public and my doctor had prescribed them for me, but said they didn't have anything to do with swelling - I quit taking them and got pregnant shortly. About second month, all symptoms stopped and never returned. Have your hormone levels checked! Good luck, I remember what a horrible ordeal it was

Hello Everyone. I have the same issues, unexplained swelling of hands, fingers, feet, lips, tong, and rarely esophagus. 4.5 years ago I did a food allergy test (IGG) which said I was allergic to just about everything except, turkey, chicken, salad.... So i started eating great. Of course giving up the beer was hard and every once in awhile I would get that swelling again. I attributed it to cheating a little and suffered the major consequences. Recently, I quit drinking and went under the largest attack of my life, eye, mouth, hands, hives on legs, hives on arms, I was a complete mess and could not go out in public. I was beginning to lose all hope so I went to the doctor who referred me to an allergist. I got the advance skin prick tests and guess what.... I'm not allergic to anything they pricked me with. I gave up chocolate, bacon, steak, lobster, shrimp, cantaloupe, wheat, barley, oats, gluten.... for what? Because I took some fraudulent IGG test that said I was allergic to everything? My diet has suffered and I don't get enough nutrients because I thought I couldn't eat everything including orange juice. Well that was all B.S. and I'm really pissed off about it because whatever is really wrong with me, I still do not know. However, the doctor saved me. He prescribed me prednazone... Remember that Prednazone 10mg- (I started with 5 a day). The next day I could feel my throat swelling up and I was going to the hospital. I decided to pop those pills (along with clariton D) as the doctor told me. 1.5 hrs, it wa all gone. I didn't have to go to the hospital and in fact I'm now on day 12 (off prednazone for 2 days) and no reactions yet. This drug saved me and I wish I would have known about it 5 years ago?

You see it all depends on the doctor you go to. If you go to an id**t, you get nothing but poor news. If you go to a real doctor who is smart and knows what they are doing... he can actually help you.

My opinion.... Get a good doctor and keep some prednazone by you should you get a reaction...

I have my life back because of this miracle drug. It seems this drug will help most of us with allergic reactions or angioedema and hives.

Spread the word.

Jason

Yes - I was diagnosed with systemic lupus in 2008 than I got Reynauds - I now get recurring shingles. I used to wake up with swollen fingers in am but would go back to normal as day went on. Recently I have been getting: 1 day it's my ring finger & joint, next day middle finger, then knee, then pinky finger, now heel or near that part of my foot - swells, itchy, red, hot - only lasts a day two but strange how it moves around in isolated areas ... may be its a new symptom of the SLE or Reynauds ? I will let you know if I find out anything - good luck

I think this has alot to do with vasodilation and the permeability of the arteries. To explain it simple: in hayfever the allergic reaction causes histamine to appear in the nose, were it dilates the blood vessels, which are actually the complaints you get; due to the dilation. Now i think that people who have unconditioned arteries (like smokers, people who don't sport, etc) are more likely to have permeable arteries. In temperature changes are wet weather, you can have all sorts of swellings due acute angioedema, but an inflammation can appear too.
