I am experiencing these symptoms exactly as described. It is very random when it will happen. I can't seem to trace it to anything specific that I eat as an immediate reaction.

I don't get the wrist symptoms but I have some itchy rushing every now and then. Not sure if it's related. I am thinking that it is some type of food allergy.

I am about 30 lbs. over weight which is the highest I have ever been, that may have something to do with it. I am going to fast for a few days and flush my system with water. I have generally been very healthy all my life. I have only had sinus allergies in the past that flare up during the spring summer and fall seasons. I have noticed that I haven't had any major flare ups since last fall but I had a really rough January which was highly unusual. I have never had allergies in January and February.

I am kind of thinking that this may have something to do with my allergies from airborne microbes but it is just manifesting in my body differently. Just a theory though.

I have never had drug or food allergies in the past and I have t taken any drugs since this started happening. My other bodily functions have not changed. Just this goofy random swelling in bottom lip and bottom of my feet.

I have the swelling issues as described and they started at the age of 9, I am now 47. It is only the last 15 months that they have been pretty much constant, to put your minds at ease, this isn't life threatening and it's name is idiopathic angioedema and it means that "something" effects your mast cells and causes them to release antihistamine into your system. It shoul die down after 18 months, fingers crossed but you may have the odd flare up. I am convinced it is todo with a few things, namely modern diet, and yeast build up and also certain pain killers set me off. I saw a specialist and they put me on 180mg fenfexadene ( Allegra) in the morning and 10mg of montelukast, in the evening which works wonders.

It's unpleasant and it did worry me, hence I wanted to share my findings.

Hope it helps

I have been bothered with your same symptoms except the fingers, this site and all the responses has definitely calmed me down. For me, this has been going on for about 8 months, I started high blood pressure meds about a year ago, I thought that might be a link. After reading all these responses, I am going to get on a very healthy diet, lose some weight , exercise, and get off the meds. It sounds like not stressing over this will be a plus as well, hope we find out soon what's going on. I am 65 and have always been healthy..a little worried too.

I've had these symptoms since childhood. It would be an eyelid on the left and by morning the left eyelid would return to normal and the right would be swollen. Imagine the teasing I got in school!!!.

As an adult the "flares" would include eyelids, lips, the side of my tongue and bottom of one or both feet. As you mentioned usually lasting only a brief period.

There doesn't seem top be any real food-allergen correlation, no external stress causes. This hampers my ability to deliver lectures and appear in public before audiences.

My physicians have considered diabetes, lupus, among other causes. For me the "flares" are accompanied by nightmares and vivid dreams even sleepwalking.

Thank You for your input last night! This morning I woke up and felt the left side of my upper lip starting to swell and I remembered your diagnosis and immediately went to wal-greens and bought the 180mg fexofenadine (non drowsy Wal- Fex). I popped one in the parking lot and went home, the swelling never increased and after a long nap it completely went away. THANK YOU!! I don't plan on taking them daily at this point, just when I get flare ups, this is new to me, about 8 months now a week to 2 weeks apart. Just thought I 'd pass on what is good news to me!

My husband has suffered with random lip, face, wrist, buttocks swelling for over a year now. He has never had allergies. After months of research, I truly believe he has a histamine intolerance. You should all look into it!!! It cannot be diagnosed by a doctor, but they can test your DAO levels (an enzyme that breaks down histamine). Long story short, your body always produces histamine, and if it cannot break down those histamines quick enough....this will cause your swelling, headaches, itching..... symptoms of an allergic reaction. There are many ways you treat it without expensive tests. More vitamin C and B6, avoiding foods high in histamine etc. Seriously though....look into it. Hope you all feel better soon!!!
