I had a swollen eyelid along with some sinus problems. I put some peroxide diluted down about 5 to 1 in a nasal sprayer. It burned some once the peroxide started working on the infection, but the problem cleared right up.

I had swollen(puffy) eye lids that came and went. I really never paid much attention , just thinking i had not sleept well the night befor.
After a urine test they found some protein in my sample. I was told to ajust diet because my cholesterol was too high (298) and to exercise to see if that corrects the protein in the urine. You may ask, what does protein in urine have to do with puffy swollen eyes?
If too much protein is passing through the kidneys there will be a protein deficency in the blood. Protein in the blood helps remove fuilds that can build up in soft tissues.
I would have never thought of a kidney issue (cholesterol issue )with swollen eye lids. There are many things that may cause swollen eyelids but if you have no irritation , redness, allergy prone, chemicals. I would have Dr. to investigate this area with a simple urine test/blood test.

lol...like right now in fact. Usually its just a sty, which you can get this mineral oil stuff that you just spread over your eyelid...benadryl doesnt hurt either (lest your allergic to it). you kinda look sad for a couplea hours, but it usually goes away pretty quickly after that

Hello...I was reading these messages recently because I just noticed my eye yesterday. It's only my right, upper eyelid that is swollen. Nothing else seems to be wrong. My eyeball is fine and there is no pain, no itching, and no fluid. The eyelid is just pinkish. It was a weird thing because my girlfriend asked me about it yesterday morning and I didn't even notice it myself. I told her i don't know (I felt completely normal and fine). It was a little bigger in the evening but got worse the next morning.
I still feel completely normal other than the "swollen" feeling.
eye drops don't seem to help much but i understand it is still early.
I am only concerned because I am living in Japan because I am in the Navy. My health care is really only under Navy doctors and not civilian.
I don't know about Japanese doctors and paying for medical attention.
I am currently on leave but staying in Japan.
I think the cause was a face wash that I used yesterday morning but I am not too sure. My girlfriend seems to think it is a small mosquito that bit my eye lid (because we have been getting many of them lately).
I think it's all something from japan because I have no known allergies and I have never had a problem like this before.

I've had a swollen eyelid off and on for about a week now. It gets irritated and a bit itchy during the day, and then gets very swollen over night. I agree with the posts about drinking lots of water, because it seems to get worse after exercising, or getting too hot/dehydrated. It also seems worse when I'm stressed or overly tired, so there might be some truth to the posts about destressing. At night it definitely gets more swollen. I've started drinking more water and I'd like to see if that helps. I also looked on the Merck Manual Online Medical Library (fantastic home medical book), and they showed two possible causes: a Stye (which has been mentioned previously), and a Chalazion, which has not been mentioned. Here is Merck's definition of a chalazion: A chalazion is an enlargement of an oil gland deep in the eyelid caused by an obstruction of the gland's opening. When I saw my physician last week, she suggested that it was a stye, and said that hot washcloth compresses would help get rid of it--sometimes taking up to a month to finally come to the surface. For the Chalazion, it suggested doing the hot washcloth compresses also. For the stye, Merck said it usually takes 2-4 days to heal, but if it's a stye that's deep in the eyelid, it can take longer--just like my physician said. The chalazion can take 2-8 weeks to become unclogged, but less time if the compresses are used. Also, they said that the antibiotic eye drops rarely help--in my opinion, save those for extreme cases of bacterial conjuncivitis (pink eye), as I think we are way over-using antibiotics. Hope this helps!!

Both my eyes got very swollen and it turned out to be hyperactive thyroid. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, feeling hot , trembling and fast heartbeat. Good luck. Jan

I think I lot of these messages are helpful. I've had a problem with a swollen eyelid in my right eye and it comes and goes. It is such a terrible feeling when you are worrying about your eye. I wonder if the above person with the overactive thyroid had problems with the eyeLID, not necessarily the entire eye area.
One thing I found out last year is the make-up I was wearing. I stopped using Maybelline and it totally went away! Now, I use an expensive brand and I'm so upset that this is back. ( It's been one year of no swollen eyelid).
The chalizion (sp?) happened to me because I had such a swollen eyelid (a few years ago), that all the fluids formed a cyst. Hot compresses ALL THE TIME did the trick.
What is killing me is the exact cause of this swollen eyelid. I'm going to try the water trick. Thank you

I went to the Doctor for the Swollen eyelid. Thay gave me steroids. 4 pills per day, the next day 3pills , two pills and one pill , and than half a pill. It took the swelling down. It is an allergic reation to something. Try making a list each day of what you eat or do. Than you can find out what you are allergic to.

Guys I have had red bumps on and around my eyelids and even under my eyes for 2 yrs on and off. Was told it was allergies, given Alegra and Topical Steroid cream, this was 2 yrs ago. I used the cream Once or twice a week when needed and it would clear up my problem. I Finaly decided to quit using the steroid cream an treat the problem. My eyes look like hell right now. The cortizone cream caused my eyes to go throug withdrawl. My problem was bad now its 1000 times worse. I went to a good dermatologist today who diagnosed me with Perioral Dermatitis. A bacterial infection often caused from over use of face creams, TOPICAL STEROIDS, floride toothpase and Im sure many other things. Was given two different antibiotics. FYI if you are ever given a cortisone (Steroid) cream use it for a short period of time only. Ill let you guys know how they work in a coulple of weeks. If these symptoms sound similar to your symptoms check out this web site. Hope this helps.

OK LET ME SETTLE THE SCORE FOR YOU PEOPLE...
IF YOU HAVE A RED (PINKISH) SWOLLEN UPPER EYELID, FEELS KINDA ITCHY, LIKE A MOSQUITO BITE... AND IF IT DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR ACTUALL EYEBALL, THIS IS THE DEAL...
IT IS AN EYELID INFECTION. OUR BODIES NATURALLY CONTAIN STAPH AND FOR SOME PEOPLE (LIKE ME), WE ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO IT.
HERE ARE YOUR OPTIONS TO MAKE IT GO AWAY:
1. DO NOT ITCH OR RUB! AT ALL! THIS SPREADS IT QUICKLY AND WILL CAUSE IT TO SWELL MORE... JUST LIKE A MOSQUITO BITE.\
2. YOUR DR. CAN PRESCRIBE SOME ANTIBIOTICS TO YOU, SINCE IT IS AN INFECTION, ANTIBIOTICS WORK GREAT.
3. TO MANUALLY REDUCE THE SWELLING, ICE IT TO DEATH! DO NOT USE WARM OR HOT WATER AS OTHERS HAVEDESCRIBED... DO NOT!! ONLY ICE WILL TAKE IT DOWN. AT FIRST IT MAY LOOK MORE RED AND SWOLLEN BUT TRUST ME, (I'VE HAD THIS INFECTION ABOUT 6 OR 7 TIMES IN THE LAST FEW YEARS) ICE IT!!!!!!
4. CHANGE YOUR PILLOW COVERS BECAUSE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE REASON YOU GOT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE... MAKE UP TOO! SUCKS FOR ALL YOU EXPENSIVE MAKEUP BUYERS... BUT IF YOU FEEL LIKE DEALING WITH IT COMING RIGHT BACK, GO AHEAD... USE THE SAME MAKEUP.
OK SO 4 EASY STEPS... DONT RUB, ANTIBIOTICS, ICE, AND NEW MAKEUP N CLEAN PILLOW COVERS!
AND FINALLY, YOU CAN THANK ME. JK, BUT I PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE ME, CUZ IT'LL ACTUALLY WORK!

I have had this happen 2 or 3 times in the past couple of years. It started again 2 days age. My eyelid became a little sore. The eye itself is fine--no pain, no swelling. The outer half of my right eyelid was a little pink, and got more sore as the day went on. The pain wasn't bad, and it only hurt when I touched it.
I woke up this morning and the outer half of the eyelid was pretty big, and much more sore. I can actually feel the eyelid on my eye when I blink. It does not feel itchy, or anything like a mosquito bite as has been stated on this thread. But it is quite sore to the touch.
In the past, I simply left it alone, and it returned to normal in a couple days. Without the itch, it sounds like it isn't an infection. I looked at the inside of the eyelid, and couldn't see a sty. I have had a sty in the past and I could feel an annoyance when it first appeared, not so with this situation. Any ideas what it is? Suggestions?

The pillow is the cause of it, at least for me. I haven't washed my pillowcases in a few months! I'm a lazy single man who lives by himself, what can I say. I sleep on my left side, which means my left eye was buried into my pillow, I wake up the next morning to my left eyelid being COMPLETELY swollen and it was hurting like hell. This has to be the cause of it, after reading this post I threw my pillows right into the washing machine. I hope this goes away soon.

This is exactly right in my scenario. I woke up yesterday morning and my eyelid was completely swollen and it was hurting like hell! It's not hurting as much today but it's still swollen and it looks like my eye is half closed. The actual eyeball itself is fine. I sleep on my left side, which means my left eye was buried in my pillow and that's the same eyelid that was swollen. It has to be the dirty pillows. I haven't washed my pillow in months. No wonder!
