I had the thermal ablation in October of 2010 - everything went along as it was supposed too. I had the usual pinkish brown discharge for a month! After 3 months, everything seemed to get better, hardly any pain and very very very light discharge. One of the main problems before was the heavy bleeding and the cramping. I also was told I have a couple of small uterine fibroids. 10 months later, I have never hurt this bad before. The bleeding is coming back, but not too bad. It is the severe pain I'm having in my right side 2 days before I start and for 3 days during. Nothing except pain pills takes the edge off! I usually have a pretty high pain tolerance and last night laid awake most of the night in tears because of the pain. I don't know if the fibroids could be growing? I'm at a loss as to what to do next. My Gyn no longer does surgery so I went to someone else to have it done, but I was not happy with the whole situation so I have not gone back. I am wondering if I need to have some sort of ultrasound while the pain is going on so they can see what is causing it? Any advice would be great, I am in such pain! It is almost unbearable! Thank you so much for your responses in advance.

Since the pain has come back so soon after the ablation, I definitely think you don't have much choice but to get yourself checked up and find out what is causing the pain now. if you are younger, its quite possible that you might need procedure done again, because after the first ablation your endometrium heals and bleeding and pain start again because as a reaction to the procedure, higher doses of estrogen that your body secrets help uterus to heal up so the problem isn't solved. Solution to this is to have hormonal therapy before the procedure, but since fibroids also might be responsible, you need to have a checkup.

thanks Nikols! I'm actually 44 so I don't think they are going to want to do it again. I am seeing a new highly recommended doctor this time as well. As I was not very happy with the doctor who performed the procedure. I have no idea why the pain is so intense, but it is to the point where I actually thought I would have to go to the ER last night. They did tell me that sometimes they don't work and that she thought I would be back in a year for a hysterectomy. Although I have my tubes tied and don't want any more children, I'm scared to death to just be thrown into menopause! I am at a higher risk of cervical cancer, so maybe the hysterectomy is the way to go! I just don't know. I'm a single mom and making these kind of decisions on my own is so very hard for me. :( Any advice you may have is always so very much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to respond to this.

I am 29 yrs old had a tubal done in 2006 & had my ablation done in nov 2010. After my tubal, my period became very heavy and I had horrible pms with severe cramping, back ache, migraine, bloating, joint pain and swelling in my legs, and severe anxiety around that time. I bled so heavily I would bleed through a pad within an hr and have ruined many pants and even threw out my mattress! My obgyn talked me into the ablation since I had already had my tubes tied. The only thing that has changed on the positive side for me with the ablation is instead of bleeding heavy for 7 straight days, I only have 3 days of heavy bleeding. The migraines and back aches are worse and I really feel like my hormones are all out of whack! I have developed facial acne, I have to now wax my upper lip (which im completely mortified over) I have not been able to lose weight in my mid section, my breasts are sore 24/7, I sweat alot more especially at night, & I have episodes of vertigo from time to time.
Everytime I talk with my obgyn about my symptoms he does blood work to check hormones, thyroid, diabetes, iron deficiency all have came back normal or negative. He has prescribed zoloft and tells me it is because I'm getting older & my body is changing. IM 29 YEARS OLD!!! I don't think it's normal for a 29 y/o to feel as though their going through the big change.
I have done my own research and found out about post tubal litigation syndrome (PTLS) I was completely shocked to find out just about all my symptoms match this syndrome! I am in the process of discussing this with my dr. I am frustrated with him b/c PTLS was never discussed w/ me when I was considering my tubal. I'm hoping to get some answers and some options. I have not been myself in 6 years & feel the ablation was not even necessary!
If anyone would like more info on PTLS please visit this site: Tubal.org

Hi Wendynaz,
I too had endometrial ablation in Sept. 2010, and after about 6 months, I started having HORRIBLE pain associated with my time of the month. I still have not bled, but the back ache and cramps are unbearable!!!
My doctor prescribed hydrocodone 7.5's for me, and they barely do the trick. I have decided to have a laproscopic supercervical hystorectomy the end of July. I just cannot take it any more. My "ghost" periods (my 20 year old named them) leave me incapacitated for at least two days, with many hours spent in the fetal position, or sleeping due to the medication. It is no way to live, and I cant take it anymore.
I wish you luck, and please read my pre and post items regarding the surgery.

It's me again....By the way, I did have an ultrasound, but there is no sign of anything that could cause the amount of pain I experience! No fibroids, or endometriosis...So I'm going to blame the Novasure procedure, and the fact that I had my tubes tied 19 years ago.

JonahLeigh...19 years ago when I opted for a tubal, the doctors told me that it was perfectly safe with no side effects...What a bunch of BS!!! My periods became much more painful, and it only got worse as I got older.
Then I had the ablation on top if it and I have been in horrible pain every month. I call them "ghost" periods.
If I were you, I'd find a FEMALE OB/GYN. They tend to me more sympathetic towards what other women are feeling.
Me....I'm having a labroscopic supercervical hysterectomy the end of July. I will keep you posted with my results.
I really feel you pain...Please go see another doctor, preferably a female, and good luck : )
