I am going in Wednesday to have the stent removed. I had a similar situation, they thought I was an alcoholic or needle drug user because when I had to take an amblance to the ER my liver levels were through the roof, 48hrs later they admitted me and put me on IV antibiotics. 72 hours and I had MRI which proved stones blocking my bile duct and backing up into my liver. ERCP done 1 day, and Gallbladder removed the next. It wasn't a hard decision after the pain I felt becaus eI never wanted that pain again, but the pain I get now...I dont know if its fron the stent or the recovery of gallbladder being removed. I still have a hard time eating and I still cant sleep on my right side. Hopefully this all goes away after Wed. :/

I had my gallbladder removed on 30th oct and had stones removed from my bile duct at the same time. The stones were really big so the doc had to break them up to remove them. He also had to cut my bile duct in two places to get them out. The surgery was meant to be about 1.5 hrs but went for over 4 hrs.  The surgeon put a stent in my bile duct so the bile duct could heal with out a bile leak. Unfortuantly the stent didnt work so I had a bile leak for 3 days. I had x rays and another CT scan to work out what was going on. Two days after the first surgery I had an ERCP to explore why I had a bile leak, they found the stent not working so they replaced it. This was all under general anesthetic because there is no way I'd have an operation with only sedation! I'm getting the stent out in 4 weeks (I hope), I don't like the idea of a 3rd op and ERCP's are horrible but if I've gotta do it I will. If any one reads this and they havent had their gallbladder out but are going too I strongly recommend that you demand a CT scan before the operation as this will find any stones that have gotten out of the gallbladder and the surgeons can remove them during the op with out any nasty suprises  (saves heaps of time and pain later.)

I had my gallbladder removed about ten years ago,the pain had gone but came back about a year later, ivnow been told the stones are in the bile duct it took the doctors about 7yrs to tell me this and istill waiting on the hospital to decide what they're going to do,I've been on morphine but to be honest I still get severe pain,if you see the signs go to a doctor and push for them to find out if you have stones in your duct, don't suffer like I have,by Anna

hi, sorry for your pain. my husband had his gall bladder removed, the dr promised that if there were any stones srtuck in his duct, he would be kept overnight and the next day another surgeon would be there to scope it and suck it out. they did not do that. we went back to the hospital the next day for a scan and the next day for a blood test. three weeks later after the doctor got back i was from london, we were told he needed the other surgeon to scope and suck out a small stone because his liver enzymes were elevated.. i was then told they put a shunt in. i looked all over the web for this. i could not find anything about a shunt after gall bladder surgery. i called the office and was told it's a stint. i ws told they might have to put in another stint. i think it's an ins scam

that needs to come out or it will grow into your duct, that's what the dr said but they don't even know if another will go in, they say they will know after they go back in with the scope again, 3rd time is a charm i hope but i think it's an ins scam, i was told that could only stay in for 4 to 6 weeks or it would grow into the duct. i am so sorry for your pain. unfortunatly for us it's in the middle of the holidays and dr's must have their holiday's off for weeks at a time. illness comes during holidays too. dr's are liars and selfish

sorry sir you are wrong, the stones cannot be removed during a routine gall bladder removal. another dr has to scope it and suck them out then they put a stent in there for drainage, dr,s are selfish and all they care about is your ins payment, then in 4 to 6 weeks the stent has to come out or it will grow into your body and have to be cut out and another put in. your dr should have had a ct scan at the time of surgery but he can't do it himself he has to call in another surgeon so he makes zero dollars, your dr sounds like a selfish hack, just like mine

I had my gallbladder removed and went back to the hospital er 2 time and on the second time they placed a stint but only because they had cut my cystic duct and it was leaking bile into my abdomen. A stint is used to help something heal and come together and yes they will take it out. It is another hospital procedure just like the first one. Just keep up your appointments and if need be a journal to log things that are not normal for your body since the surgery

I to had a bad time after and during my removel of gaulgladder,i have a stent which should come out soon, very disopointed in my local hospital.Had bad time three times i ended up in hospital,if they had given me an exray to start with this would have all been sorted still i fight my complaint.Other people should not go through what i did, even in A and E no pain relief was in agony i am being transferred to another hospital for further treatment.I am not looking forward to going back at all, even worse having my stent taken out what else will go wrong. My poor tummy has been through it key hole surgery twice already,i want it all over am glad to be at home with my family they have been great. My advice to anyone out there, dont put up with it we all know things can go wrong but most of the time it comes down to cost.Complain about it put it in writing,if you dont no one will ever know.

Yes, I was given a stent to supposedly help the stone pass and had to go back a week later to have it removed. The procedure they used to place the stent and remove the stent was horrible. They put the stent down my throat. The thing that upset me was they didn't give me an ultra-sound first to see if the stent was in my colon or if it passed through. Well, they tried to remove the stent and couldn't find it (it had passed through my colon) I had the painful procedure for nothing which cost me money (medical bills) and another week for my throat to heal.

At 09:00 this morning, I had three large stents removed from my Common Bile Duct, and replacements inserted.  This was my third ERCP and none has been a horrible experience, as I had plenty of sedation.  My throat was quite sore afterwards, like mild tonsilitis, but is now almost back to normal.

My first stents were in for 6 months, without any problems, and the second lot gave rise to an infection, which I recognised early early and sorted out with antibiotics, 2 weeks ago.

I'm going down the stents route because, having weighed up the risks, I prefer it to a big operation, for the time-being.
