I had my gallbladder removed after it ruptured when I was 17. (6 years ago) I had to have a binary stent put in because one of the stones (out of 13 or 14) had lodged itself in the duct causing obstruction. I didn't have the stent put in until the following morning after my initial gallbladder removal surgery. Mine gives me problems from time to time are you having issues with yours?

I had gallbladder removed about 5 yrars ago with the laproscopic procedeure. 7 stones 1.75 inches in diameter removed they said. Same night I had a rush of intense pain and blacked out. I woke up being rushed to surgery again. In total I had 30 hours of surgery in 4 days. The nurse said the staples came out and everything opened up so they rushed in a specialist who fortunately was home and not far for the last surgery which was about 15 hours. Then i was told i had a bad infection and could only have intaveinious antibiotics and occaisionaly some liquid for 14 days. I lost 50 pounds. I weighed about 210 at six feet tall and very fit. They also said they put a stent in. It was a month long stay. A year or so later i had an exray and the tube is like two feet long. WTF is that my doctor asked? The surgery was at an out of network hospital from my insurance co, but the final surgeon is highly respected as one of the best world wide for this procedeure. The 1st guy screwed up badly. I never saw him again. The bill was 210,000 bucks. They were glad i didnt sue and said its ok to not pay.Now im having some issues, dark pee abd light color stool for a week, and weak in the knees. Mild nausea and sweats. Appointment soon. Infected tube/stent? It curls around all over in there from the exray view.

During emergency gallbladder removal, stones could not be extracted from bile duct. 2 days later an endoscopy was done but stones in duct were inaccessble, so stent was inserted in bile duct and stones extracted. Dr performing endoscopy said he plans to remove stent in 2 to 3 weeks.

I am Female 38 years old. I had my gallbladder removed in 2014 along with and ercp to have gallstones removed out of my bile duct. Almost a year to the day 2015 I had the same type of pain, so I went back to the Er. sure enough, gallstones in my bile duct. I was admitted for surgery on Tuesday. The ercp was done on Wed morning, I was in severe pain. I was released Thursday afternoon only to return 2 days later. At that time the ER doctor informed me that I indeed had a stent in place. The surgeon nor the ER doc mentioned the fact that I would need to go back to the Dr. to either have it along with more stones removed or have more stents placed. I to have to take medication for the rest of my life, and (hope it works) waiting for my appointment for removal :( Hope this helps!

A stent is used if the bile duct is strangulated causing a back flow of bile in the liver.
The pain is the same as gallbladder stones .

I've recently had my gallbladder removed but the pain remains?

Google SOD with upper right abdominal pain and the question relating to your stent should should be answered.

Stents are used to treat SOD

Yes, I had my gallbladder removed over 4 years ago and it resulted in a bile leak (surgeons fault) and a stent was put in. I was suppose to have it removed 6 or 8 weeks later but I had a balance that I couldn't pay off at the time so they would not remove it. I still have the stent in (my financial situation..my fault). It can block ur liver and cause problems, is what I was told, however..nobody is eager to take it out till it becomes an emergency! I live in Tennessee BTW.

Also wanted to add that I was in the hospital on heavy pain meds for 7 days BC of this. It was horrible and has now impaired my ability to make decisions on when I should actually go to the Dr when I have pain.
