What side effects may occur?
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Provera.
•Side effects may include:
Acne, anaphylaxis (life-threatening allergic reaction), blood clot in a vein, lungs, or brain, breakthrough bleeding (between menstrual periods), breast tenderness or sudden or excessive flow of milk, cervical erosion or changes in secretions, depression, excessive growth of hair, fever, fluid retention, hair loss, headache, hives, insomnia, itching, lack of menstruation, menstrual flow changes, spotting, nausea, rash, skin discoloration, sleepiness, weight gain or loss, yellowed eyes and skin
Special warnings about Provera
Before you start to take Provera, your doctor will give you a complete physical exam, including examination of your breasts and pelvic organs. You should also have a cervical smear (Pap test).
Provera may cause some degree of fluid retention. If you have a medical condition that could be made worse by fluid retention—such as epilepsy, migraine, asthma, or a heart or kidney problem—make sure your doctor knows about it.
Provera may mask the onset of menopause. In other words, while taking Provera you may continue to experience regular menstrual bleeding even if your menopause has started.
Provera may make you depressed, especially if you have suffered from depression in the past. If you become seriously depressed, tell your doctor; you should probably stop taking Provera.
If you are diabetic, Provera could make your diabetes worse; your doctor will want to watch you closely while you are taking this drug.
There is some concern that Provera, like birth control pills, may increase your risk for a blood clot in a vein. If you experience any symptoms that might suggest the onset of such a condition—pain with swelling, warmth, and redness in a leg vein, coughing or shortness of breath, vision problems, migraine, or weakness or numbness in an arm or leg—see your doctor immediately.
BIOIDENTICAL HARMONES
The term “bioidentical hormone therapy” is often used to describe a medication containing estrogen, progesterone, or other hormones that are chemically exact duplicates of hormones produced by women, primarily in the ovaries. Many of these bioidentical hormones (eg, estradiol, progesterone) are commercially available in several well-tested, FDA-approved, brand-name prescription drugs. A list of government-approved products in the United States and Canada is posted on this site.
A number of bio-identical hormones in the form of pills/capsules and
transdermal patches are available and with those peri and post
menopausal ladies are improving quality of their life and
relationships with husbands and children. Even when these natural products are
not covered under insurance.
Why do Some People Suffer Adverse Bioidentical Hormones Side Effects?
It has been found that when the dosage of bioidentical hormones is too high for an individual there are many adverse effects. Just as if your body naturally produced too much of any one hormone, you would suffer ill effects as well. These side effects can generally be eliminated when the dosage is returned to a normal level that balances out the hormones once again.
You should always check with a doctor before undergoing any type of bioidentical hormone therapy, but when the dosage is given in the correct amount you can reap the many benefits that this treatment has to offer.
There are very few if any bioidentical hormones side effects. If you wish to take advantage of this option in an effort to minimize the horrible symptoms of menopause, then the information above can help you learn more about what to expect. As long as you consult a physician and do not take too much of a dose at one time, these hormones are capable of helping you live a healthier and happier life.

Hi Renetta: How are you? I was just reading through all of this and it sounds like the therapist isn't really helping that much is he?
I don't know if all the other people here know everything, but I still stand by my 1st thought about what you should do! You are definitely suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, you have been through many wars in your life. And you do need more than just talking. If you put yourself in the same position as a soldier, who has been in many battles. He/She doesn't get help by just talking about it, they need more professional help than that. There is someone else I have been talking too, who has been suffering as you have. Not anywhere as severe as your past, but just the same outcome.
Family members and good friends shut down when they do not know what too say, you know that old expression "IF you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all"? Well that applys with this too doesn't it? You have a mental illness, and people don't know how to deal with it, because they don't know how you will handle it. It is the same for any illness, it's not like you can say too someone "Well you'll be better soon" Because it sound contright!
I agree with other posters, I do think you need more intense help, especially since all the things that have been done to date, don't seem too be making you feel better. You reached out to an old "male friend" because you weren't getting what you needed from your husband. The reason why he didn't respond is that he too probably couldn't understand the situtation, knowing you are married. It IS normal for you too reach out for something that you don't have.
It's not the Provera or hormones that is what is happening with your body and mind. It is a sub cause of your main illness. Without help, sometimes it can be like a spiral getting out of control. So please go and see a professional, they CAN and WILL help you out! Best of luck hon!

what other kind of help do i need i thought that I was in the right place? I see the therapist almost every week next week I will see the doctor in the office to see if i need some other kind of medication. I know that I have a very serious problem with the ptsd but I really think that it's something with the provera because it only happen when I take the pills.

There has to be a group effort to research and help you, all I am saying about the therapist is, he is bascially just one slice of the pizza, you will need a doctor to look at the pills you are on - I just had a thought - Are you on any other pills other than Provera? A lot of times there CAN be major reactions to different pills being used at one time. When you go to your doctors, he might even change the pill for you, a lot of women can not handle certain pills and not others.
Your case is SO different - as is everyones right? So you just need a group of people too take a good look at your past, present and what to do about it so you have a productive happy future. When your body is on high alert from stress, it starts making it impossible - such as panic attacks, OCD, Agrophobia etc. So to get help while the major ones are still controlable is the best way too go.
You have been through a heck of a lot in your life, more than most people could bare! This just shows you how strong you really are, even though you don't feel that way sometimes. A SURVIVOR IS a SURVIVOR - no matter what the battle is! I just want you to be the best you can be, and healthy too take the next step - you know what I think that should be.
How is your sister and brotherinlaw by the way? When you go to the doctors have the main things written down, so you don't forget what you want too say! I don't know if you have told your doctor everything that has happened with you, but you HAVE too, so he can help you too the fullest.
You are doing everything you can do, now it is up too the professionals. I went to a Chronic Pain Centre, and I was seen by diffeent specialists, they all got together and talked about mine and other cases, then they made a plan so that everyong had input and then they worked with me to get a plan. This is the same kind of care that you need.

Hi Renetta: I was reading through these posts again. I just came back from having a break with 2 of my oldest girlfriends. They are both nurses, one is a regular RN, the other a psychiatric RN. We were talking about different people on here, and I was mentioning another lady and yourself and others. What she said too me was quite ey opening actually. She works on different wards, and some people will NEVEr leave there due to EXTREME psychosis! Then there are the "Regular Mrs. Cleavers!" Regular moms and dads that are SO overwhelmed that they desperately NEED a rest. You mentioned that you feel you need a rest, and I couldn't agree more.
I wish I could talk another lady on here too go and get some help, I am very proud of you for reaching out and seeking that help. You have too listen to your body don't you. So if you feel that you need a rest, the you NEED a rest. There HAS to be a consorted attempt for different professionals to work on getting you to the best you can be. Some of the pills you are on could actually interact with each other!!!!
It's just like a friend of mine whom owns a gym, she has a dietician, a physical fitness, detoxer, massage therapist, counselor. She has ALL of these people see new clients, so they can come up with a plan of attack on getting her clients to optimum health. So what is the difference between that and getting your mental and emotional health into optimum health right?!!! And I think it's time for society to start thinking about the WHOLE being, not just lifting weights, and yoga, but giving the brain what it needs to function properly. And that - as far as I'm concerened - is rest!!!
So good luck tommorrow, and ask your doctor too make sure that non of these drugs are having adverse affects on each other OK? Good luck hon!

dear bambi,i understand what you are trying to convey..yes renette needs rest, and your concern for her is realy impressive!!
i totaly respect your views,i dont want you to think that m trying to prove you wrong as you are senior to me(coz your grlfriends are nurses,a guess). :-D
mmm.. i want to correct you here,YOGA is not for physical fitness it revolves around complete wellbeing or you can say WHOLEbeing, meditation is that dimension which deals with mental health thats why i suggested her!! look most of the people have more faith in modern medicines, than yoga just because they know less about it and people want instant results...i am a medical student i belive in what i see,and personaly have seen many people with positive outcomes!!!!!
hope you got my point and renette gets well soon!!! :-)

Yes I did and he said I needed talk to my ob/gyn about the provera. It's causes mood swings and if you are going through something at the point while you take them it can make it worst or even trigger anxiety and depression. He said talk to her about something else or he will give me a rx to take along with the provera to help me through the 14 days that I take it. I had to go to the emergency room last night I had a very bad time in therapy yesterday. I really want something so I can got to sleep but I don't really think that they are hearing me. I'm so tired. You know sometimes you can be so tired until you just can't fall to sleep on your own. I just want some rest that's all why do they think that yu are just looking to get high. I don't do any drugs at all but the ones that they give me. I have to buy sleeping pills out of the store and I've been doing this for a while now I only that them when I need them. I just need rest. Please pray for me. :'( :'( :'( :'(

1st too Madhavi: I just re read my post, and please believe me, my yoga comment wasn't aimed at you. It was actually because I was talking about my girlfriends Spa/Gym! It didn't occur too me what I said till I re read it and thought "madhavi must think I'm saying about his/her statment" I wasn't!!! I totally believe in meditation and yoga for getting back to your inner self. So my appologies OK? I was just talking more about Rennatta and others having a break from everything.
Now Renetta: The main reason why you can't sleep is because of all of the things going off in your mind and in your life. You can feel absolutely tired and exhausted so that feels like you should be sleeping, when infact it is totally the opposite. It is your brain saying, "I can't think straight! I can't relax! I am EXHAUSTED" So it can't relax, because it keeps thinking these things. Can I ask why you were taken too hospital? If it was from a mental standpoint, why didn't they keep you in? I do think that you do need a mental break. I do think you need all the help you can get. Can you tell me why and what they said?

I was taken to the hospital because I had a anxiety attack that left me unresponive. My mother took me and I stayed for a while. I told them that I didn't want to kill myself or hurt anybody so after everything checked out they sent me home with some valium and I hope you feel better. I just don't know what else to say anymore. I'm not going to lie and say that I want to harm myself so if you don't do that then they let you lay there for a few hours and calm down. when I say unresponive I mean fainting I just blacked out. I was so tired.

WOW!! Thats a SEVERE panic attack! I know of some people that have gone in and said that just too get in!! But then there's a WHOLE bunch of other issues that arise from that.
What does your normal doctor say about all of this? For you too actually pass out means that your mind is in a terrible state of anxiety that is now causing you to loose consciousness. This isn't a hypchondriac thing, this IS REAL! And possibly life threatening.
Is there any psychiatric help lines where you live? Social Workers etc. They have teams that are called Emergency Response Teams, but those are mainly used for crisis situations with children.
Have you EVER felt close too suicide? I know you cut, but I don't remember you ever mentioning more drastic thoughts. It's pretty bad when the only way a hospital will help you is IF you have come too the end of the line. Does your regular GP know about the cutting? They have too send you too a psychiatrist not just a therapist. I know you don't like drugs, but there are FAR better chemical imblance medications other than VAILUM!!!!! I know you have been quite forthright with different people, just wondering if the same applies with your GP. Also what about the crisis lines that we first talked about? Regarding your father etc. I DO think you need to contact them and have some one on one and then perhaps group therapy.

I see both and I haven't told my GP because I'm not sure about him. He's very old and I don't think he gets me at all. He's patients are more on the older side i 've been there since birth I know I need to find someone else and I will. I saw my therapist and the psychiatrist and the psychiatrist just up my zolft to 200mg. I got the valium from the hospital. This has nothing to do with my ptsd. I got my wisdom tooth pulled in april and it was compacted and I had to go through a little surgery and ever since I had my tooth pull I've been having this tickcleing sensation in my left ear and it's so aggravating it just feels like something is crawling in it. I've been to the doctor for it several time I got some antibiotics the first time but it didn't help so I went back and got a ear drop and that hasn't help I just don't know what to do about that it really makes me feel off balanced.

I am blown away about your ear thing. I will tell you why, remember when I mentioned the other lady I am talking too, and trying too get her to get some help? She has an inner ear thing too!!!! Is that strange or what? I have sent the following link too several other members on here, so I thought I would send it too you too. It is amazing how we are all so different but when it comes too panic and anxiety attacks we have all the same symptoms, I just looked through this and it didn't mention the inner ear thing. But that can't be just coincidence can it?

Take a look at this and I'm sure you can relate too many of the symptoms on here. I agree about your doctor. You need a new one, he knows your dad too - probably. So a fresh pair of eyes and EARS would be the best for you.
