one question for you: I only have tonsil stones in one tonsil. Did you get them both removed just to be certain or did you have tonsil stones in both tonsils?

Hello everyone,
Great posts with a lot of good info.
I too suffer with tonsil stones, and had bad breath for as long as i can remember. 34 years now.
I have a question to people who have done the surgery: Did it 100% remove the bad breath? Not to sure I wanna go through the pain if it doesnt have any effect.
Appreciate any answers.
Thank you.

Wow.. thanks a lot for your description of your tonsillectomy journey.. I decided for a tonsillectomy for the exact same issue. I'm very happy you finally got rid of these stones.. I had them too for a several years and indeed it's the worst thing to live with. Now I'm on day 11, I hope I'll be eating normal food soon! Greetings from Belgium

I'm 26 and I've had tonsil stones for a while now. I used to be able to see them and pop them out with a blackhead remover, but now I can feel them but not see them and it's extremely annoying. It's like having gravel stuck in your throat. It's only in one tonsil; the other one you can barely see and doesn't cause any problems. The offending tonsil has visible crypts, but now it seems that the stones have gotten wise to my game and have moved behind the tonsil where I can't reach them and can't do anything about them but make the tonsil bleed and myself almost throw up.
I really want to have my tonsils removed, but a few things halt me from doing so.
1) I sing in a choir and am a soloist, and am afraid my voice will be messed up from a tonsillectomy. 2) I'm fairly certain no doctor will approve me for surgery because my tonsils aren't huge or causing a giant problem. I can eat and breathe, but have always had problems with allergies, sinus infections and strep throat, all of which are things that can cause tonsil stones.
3) I have no sick time at work and if I am to be out for 2 weeks at least for recovery I will not be paid and may not even have a job if I tried to take off that much time.

Everything is spot on so far..
As for the dairy...yes THEY LIE! Everything burns that isn't completely soft and bland.
Hmmhmmm... quesadillas...that might be my first real meal when I'm ready.

1 most ppl have improved voice not declined...as the tonsils when inflamed constrict vocal chords. But it would take recovery time... months
2 it's excruciating...only get it done if absolutely necessary. In my case it was because of tonsil stones, tonsillitis repeats and sleep apnea.
3 idk where you work but you shouldn't lose a job for a necessary surgery...I think you'd better look into your HR office and ask. Should be illegal to fire you for something like that.
Hope this helps.

Hey! My name is Amber and I’m 17 years old and I’m going to the ear nose and throat doctor Monday because I have tonsil stones bad like they’re never ending. And a few nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night because I was choking on one and couldn’t breathe. My mom had to get it out for me. Now I’m scared to sleep on my back. I pull out 4-5 stones a day. I want to get my tonsils out because of this and because of the strep I get a lot. I’m afraid the doctor won’t want to take them out. Do you think he’ll take my tonsils out?

I am 22 and just got my tonsils out because I have struggled with really bad tonsil stones and really large tonsils.
It is only day one.... I just got them out today. I am very nervous for what is to come. But thank you for posting this! It helped reassure me that my decision was the right thing to do!

I also forgot to ask.... do you have any recommendations to help make the pain more tolerable on the days where you’re hitting a 7, 8, 9, or 10 pain. My doctor didn’t prescribe me any medications. I am only taking ibuprofen and tylenol. Please let me know what foods are best to eat too. I have had popsicles and they seem to numb it. Do you have any other suggestions? Also it feels like I have skin hanging from the roof of my mouth or something. Not sure if this is necessary or what this could be? My mom tried looking in my throat and she said she didn’t see anything so I’m not really sure what it could be.

So, I’ve been suffering from tonsil stones for about a year now. It’s gross and I felt it was causing me bad breath. I did some research only to find that ENT’s won’t take your tonsils out just because of stone.. it’s way to risky of a procedure for adults to accommodate an issue that isn’t harmful to your person. SO, okay.. what do I have to say to my ENT to have him consider taking them out..? Well, I googled all the symptoms of tonsillitis and I went in complaining that I don’t have coverage and can’t be running back and forth to the doctors office for anitibiotics everytime I get an infection! He asked me my symptoms, I listed them.. yellow/white coating on tonsils, swelling, painful swallowing etc. He asked me how often I get tonsilitis.. IT HAS TO BE MORE THAN 7 TIMES IN A YEAR FOR YOU TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A TONSILECTOMY! So I said, I get it between 8-10 times.. that’s when he said okay we will take them out ! So, I just had my surgery last week, it really is a tough time but I know it will be worth it. So, yah! I was determined to get those suckers out
