Hi all.  Glad I found this forum.  I am a 51yo female and had UP3 surgery with tonsillectomy one month ago.  This involves shortening the uvula, tightening the soft palate and pillars and removal of tonsils.  Recovery was horrendous!  However, I am now back eating normally and virtually pain-free, apart from the odd twinge when I yawn.

But, like everyone on here, I am also experiencing that lump-like feeling at the back of the throat.  It's alsoworse on one side.  What I will say that I noticed when I shone a torch down there, was a stitch sticking out both sides which haven't dissolved as yet.  It was really hard to see them at first and they could easily have been mistaken for saliva.  The stiches are a clear colour.  Someone earlier said it felt like they had a hair stuck in their throat; wondering if they might also have stitches in there that they can't really see?

I don't know if the stitches are put in for tonsillectomy or if it was due to some other part of my procedure (haven't had my ENT follow up appt yet).  But I am certainly taking hope from a lot of the comments on here that this lump feeling will eventually go away!  Good luck to everyone.  It's not exactly beer and skittles!

Thanks so much for this post. It has been the only one so far that lets us know that the swollen uvula/lump sensation does go away. At exactly 21 days out, I am aware that the sensation for me actually is the half uvula that was left in, touching the back of my throat and even sticking to the back of my throat when my mouth gets dry. I am very relieved to know that this well eventually get better and that it likely the remnants of swelling. Thanks a million!

Dear Sedeusch, You are giving me a lot of hope. I'm one month post tonsillectomy and I have that feeling in the back of my throat like something is stuck and I gag on it often. I can handle that feeling but I also have an additional burning sensation, sort of like my right tonsil is still there and is inflamed and burning and lot. Also, the back of my throat ( all the way back, behind the tonsils) is almost blood red. It gets even more red and burning at nights and calms down and turns orange by evening. Did you ever have this? I know you wrote this over a year ago and I hope you see this soon.

Hey, I just got a tonsillectomy 10 days ago. One of my symptoms before getting a tonsillectomy was having a feeling like something was stuck in the back of my throat on the left hand side. This is the 10th day and I am just now starting to feel it again. I'm not sure if this is normal or not and I am just wondering if you had this feeling before your surgery as well
