Please help! I am on day 10 after my tonsillectomy and feeling so depressed and hopeless. The first couple of days were fine, small/soft foods, liquids, it was fine. Then it was like a switch, I woke up on day 5 with terrible phlegm. I've been spitting it up constantly ever since then. And I woke up yesterday morning twice, nauseous and had to run to the bathroom to puke and after that is when I started to feel like there's something constantly in the back of my throat on the right side. And because I'm scared to throw up again, I stopped taking my pain meds. I haven't eaten anything in like 4 days now because when I try the pain radiates through my throat, ears, jaw.. it's excruciating and I'm starving. Same with drinking, I am only able to get a couple sips down before the pain starts. And I've been icing my throat/neck nonstop. The first couple of days I was eating popsicles like crazy but now the super cold just hurts. I'm seeing no light at the end of this tunnel and I regret ever having this stupid surgery. Please help

Is anyone still having this problem? I had a tonsillectomy 4 years ago and STILL have a weird feeling in my throat. Everyone I swallow it feels like there is a lump or something. I feel like it makes my breath smell weird too. Can anyone relate to this? :(

I'm almost on my 4th month post op and yeah, I too still have that "lump in the throat" feeling. I still can't drink fluids without having to exert extra effort to swallow. My sense of taste has somewhat returned but still definitely muted, especially with sweets.

I had mine almost 7 months ago and yes, I still have that feeling as well. I still can't drink any liquid as fast as I did prior to surgery (I can't "gulp" anything down) and there's still that lump in my throat. Drinking cold water regularly throughout the entire day helps as it seems to lubricate the area and makes it less of a nuisance. I've learned to live with it though, as the tonsillectomy seems to have cured my sleep apnea. Haven't gotten tested yet but my wife tells me my snoring/snorting is almost gone. I believe the lump could be scar tissue, and my dentist tells me that bad breath often comes from the stomach and not the mouth. My guess is the path from your esophagus to the stomach is clear of any obstruction.

Hello,I'm 17 days out and having really bad pain on track side and ear pain is awful, still feeling yucky and drained at times, not released to go back to work .. still high risk for bleeding and dr says scab is thick,I'm not drinking enough but hurts to swallow ... had lost 23 lbs which was awesome but gained about 10 back in 3 days :( ...people told me this is a rough surgery and I agree, sometimes when I eat I feel like it's going to back of my nose and sticking (sorry I know that's gross)

Thank-you so much for these posts. I had my tonsillectomy 7 weeks ago, and my throat feels just like you have all described, with the white spots around the scar tissue and wound areas. I gag, cough and choke on it all the time. Thank goodness it will heal, I will be patient
