I had my surgery exactly two months ago and has the same problem. I am worried because my doctor should have told me that this would happen.
I eat and then have to vomit so that my throat can feel better. This is after every meal. This is not normal.

Hi I had my tonsils removed on February 3, 2017 and I still have the same feelings in the back of my throats that is not comfortable at all. I ask my doctor about it and he tells me to give it a few more weeks. I'm tired of this feeling.

So glad I stumbled on these posts, I had my tonsils out 10 weeks ago (I am 44) probably the worst recovery experience ever and whilst I already feel the benefits of not becoming ill once a month, I have been growing increasingly concerned that this awful lumpy feeling was never going to go away, I also experience the gagging and garbled voice on occasion.... whilst I feel for everyone experiencing this, it is somewhat comforting to know i am not an isolated case.. thanks all jason

It's been almost a year since my tonsillectomy. Below are my final thoughts:

1. Everything is "almost" back to normal. Almost in a sense that my swallowing, it seems, has been completely altered. I can no longer take huge and fast gulps of water. Solid food isn't a problem though.
2. My wife says that my snoring is almost completely gone! I just snore when I have a bad cold or when I prop my head up too high. I would say 90% to 95%
3. My sleep apnea seems to have been cured as well! I sleep better and wake up more refreshed. No more cobwebs in the morning! Feel like I have more energy too.
4. I got sick quite a few times after the surgery (mostly flu). My doctor says that any form of surgery tends to temporarily compromise our immune systems. I seem to have recovered though as I haven't gotten sick in a while.
5. I developed the habit of drinking A LOT of water throughout the day. I believe this helped (and is continuing to help) me a lot. KEEP HYDRATED ALWAYS!

Overall, getting the tonsillectomy has been one of the best decisions I made. Sure, you'll experience some regret for the first few months because of the recovery but it's the price you must pay to be able to (hopefully) enjoy the rest your life. IT WILL GET BETTER.

Hello everyone it's been 5 weeks and a few days o had my tonsils out and he was supposed to partially trim my uvala but he trimmed it all the way off which made me mad he said he made a judgement call to take whole thing off because it was so long my uvala touched my tongue and he said it was like a small finger. I know it did cause some sleep issues for me. But besides that I'm having issues with right side of throAt we're pallet is I'm guessing it's scar tissue I feel it when I eat and drink and even when I'm not eating. It's a rubbing annoying feeling that's bothersome for sure my ent said it's granualated tissue which should feel better eventually but of course he doesn't give me a time frame. I'm 49 years old and I had to go back to work the 3 rid day I was out of surgery I work for myself I tried to take it as easy as I could. Just wonder if it postponed recovery time for me I just hope I feel back to normal soon it is like a lot of you said very annoying the scar tissue rubbing I've been nervous and very anxious about it because this whole thing started with me having tonsil stones over a year ago and it took the drs up here we're I live 6 months to figure it out so I've been kinda traumatized over this whole ordeal and so ready to be back to normal in my life want to feel happy and enjoy life again and be that happy dad I was to my son. I'm still happy when o have him it's just I'm dealing with this uncomfortable feeling and hoping ent did a good job he doesn't feel like anything else needs to be done so this iratation feeling lumpiness on right side of throAt and pallets better go away

Hi Svante, Just curious how this went? I am 43, and had my tonsils out by the same ENT voted best in Denver. I have very similar tightness and that feeling of a lump. My allergies are bad in the spring and so the post nasal drip along with the scar tissue, I have trouble sleeping due to the post nasal issues. Overall the surgery was not as bad as most people said, and the overnight nurse said I was one of the only people she ever saw smile after the procedure. Recovery overall was pretty easy too, I was able to swallow food the next day. The only issue now is the lump, which from what I can tell, will go away... hopefully..

Well what about your ability to taste? Did you ever lose that? When will it return?

I had my tonsils and adnoids removed two weeks ago now and have been recovering great! The first week is definitely the worst. Eating, drinking, and just swallowing saliva hurt. It almost felt like there was a knife in the back of my throat. I stuck to eating things like eggs, pancakes, smoothies, popsicles, and macaroni. It hurt going down but not so bad that I wasn't able to eat. I found that by regularly eating, taking the meds on time, and keeping liquids in my mouth, I was healing really quick. By the end of the first week I had so much less pain that it only hurt a little to eat. Two weeks out now my throat is barely swollen and it barely hurts to eat or drink. I'm 19 years old and was only in bed for two days. By the third day I was up and moving. Maintaining my health through the healing process has made it much easier to recover. I definitely recommend doing everything your doctor tells you to do.

I only heard bad things about getting my tonsils out by other people but I had no problem with it. It was basically just a really bad sore throat. They said recovery would take longer being an adult but I've had no problem.

I just had my tonsils and adenoids removed Monday and I’m almost having no pain but I’m having an issue where I feel like when I swallow somehow that thing that hangs in the back of the throat(don’t know what it’s called) is like right there when I swallow it, which I’m sure it’s not. So I’m wondering if 1 that’s a normal thing and 2 if it’s just swelling or something?

I’m six months out and it still feels like there’s something hanging in my throat...not to mention bad breath and still haven’t got my taste buds back! I’ve been back to the Dr. and he assures me the feeling in my throat will go away and that my taste buds will return...I’m not convinced at this point...I hope I won’t have to deal with this for the rest of my life....the only good thing is I’m down 30lbs.
