I'm a 21 year old female. I had my tonsils removed 7 days ago. It was a totally fine recovery until day 5 and now it's gotten progressively worse. I was taking liquid lortab, but then it just stopped working for me so my doctor gave me liquid Roxicet. That's not working so great either.
I have been watching the back of my throat day by day. Of course it looks gross and stinks, but that's normal. As of last night, I developed bumps on top of my "tonsil craters," which are huge by the way. It looks like cottage cheese on top of my wounds. I know it's supposed to be white, but is the bumpiness normal? And the horrible pain that oxycodone won't even fix... Is that ok or is it something to be worried about? I'm losing sleep and I haven't eaten in two days. I'm still drinking a lot.
ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE FANTASTIC. PLEASE HELP ME OUT! Thanks!

Hi, Amy I am glad to have someone in my situation. I just had my tonsils removed yesterday and my uvula is swollen and it makes it hard for me to swallow. I heard it like get worse on day 4 or 5, but so far the only problem I am having is a hard time swallowing. What you need to do Amy is keep drinking fluids such as: Grape Juice, apple juice and suck on sugar free Popsicle. Take all your medication as directed and you should be good. Hope you feel better.

Yeah my uvula is swollen a lot too. It's annoying because it's so big that it rests on the back of my tongue. It's just a weird feeling I guess. I called my doctor today and she got me some low dose steroids. Also, I bought a ridiculious amount to apple juice. I guess recoveries are very different for each person. Thanks for the reply

No problem. I know what you mean about the uvula just kinda swollen and dangling there. What method did they use for your surgery? I like grape juice better, when I tried apple juice it kinda burn a little. I read the ingredients and it says it has acid, so that's why I guess. Popsicles and pain meds are my best friends now. Hope you feel better.

They cauderized those bad boys off. And yeah I've noticed a lOt of random things burn. I never knew foods were so acidic til now. So far, sherbet has been the best thing for my throat. Thanks and good luck to you too

I'm telling you that's so true. And that's very good Amy. Why did you decide to get a tonsillectomy if you don't mind me asking

Well, my super awesome boyfriend introduced me to tonsillitis a little over a year ago. Ever since then, I've been getting strep and tonsillitis quite often. And when I wasn't sick, My tonsils would randomly get infected. I also had tonsil stones sometimes. Those are so gross. What about you?

Oh, boy I'm very sorry to hear that. I have no idea how this came upon me I just started getting these white particles in my tonsils and when I picked them out they smelled awful. It had my breath smelling bad, and I the type of guy that brush everyday. So, one night my throat closed up on me literally and I couldn't even talk at all. So, that's when I realized I am not going to let this be a hindrance to me any longer. You know what I mean. So, it was worth it.

Yeah you had tonsil stones. They're so annoying. I heard that brushing your tongue and gargling with mouthwash would prevent them. Getting your tonsils removed will also prevent them....

Yes, thank God I decided to to have them taken out. I'm going on my 2nd day and I have to say, the pain is not as bad as I expected.

Well I'm having issues with my medication. Other than that, I would have had a smoother recovery. Yeah the first few days were great

I was taking liquid lortab. Not they switched me to liquid roxicet and prednisone. I can't seem to get a painkiller that works. It's like I have a high tolerance, but I've never even taken them before

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I am already on day 2 and I can feel the pain now. It was bad enough it woke me up from my good sleep :/

Sleeping has been an issue. I guess because your throat dries out at night. So I set alarms to wake up and chug some water and go back to sleep it has helped quite a bit. I also thought about getting a humidifier, but I don't think I want to spend the money if I'm only going to use it for this recovery. It's funny how we're both replying so quickly. We're obviously just laying around right now. Haha
