I had my tonsils removed 5 days ago. after the first day I felt fine but by the second day the pain doubled. This site has been very helpful for me so I thought I'd share my experience to hopefully help others. I have noticed sweet things do not taste good to me at all. Ice cream, juice or anything recomended did not appeale to me. I found Ice water was easiest to drink in large quantities. Food being almost impossible to eat I found warm broth not only tasted good but soothed. instant mashed potatoes in a very soupy consistancy also helps if your stomache is upset from medicine. Make sure and stay on the dot taking any pain medicine..if you can or do wake up at night drink and take your medicine it will help the morning not be quite as difficult. Letting warm water from the shower in your mouth and spit it out not necessarily gargle helps a lot for the first couple of days and if you can brush your teeth and tongue it will help with the nausea and bad breath. Food might also taste a little better. What ever you do drink as much as possible. The more you drink the less it hurts. If that's not the case for you drink as much as you can just after taking pain medicine when it hurts the least. It truely does help. I can't talk much and prefer not to try but after just five days I'm doing very well, only the swelling of my uvula is a problem for me right now. Good luck! Drink, Drink, Drink!!!!
I think that this post is really helpful because a lot of people talk about their negative experiences and it can scare people who have the surgery done. This is a much more typical experience as I've seen ehre so I'm glad to hear that you're recovering nicely. Please if anyone else has a post like this share with everyone here so that we know that it's like to recuperate from the surgery!
