I have the same problem and try to drink water to bring the food down . , My food gets stuck in my throat down to my chest and I try to push it back out even though I can breathe it feels like I'm shoking . I agee when I try to drink water it does make it worse but after most of it is over water does help . I notice my problem happens when I eat rice or have a cookie . Mostly with rice unless I put alot of sauce or in soup and still some times it even happens then.

Hi ,have been reading your stories with interest,i have had similiar symptoms for years, reflux food continually getting stuck followed by the race to the bathroom for the hopefully quick removal of the obstruction!
I have had scope down throat and major blocks in esophagus top and lower ,speciialist mentioned esophagus transplant needed!!
I wasn't to keen on that advice and like all of you starting thinking of other ways,it took along time but the best strategy i could come up with was to somehow control esophagus muscle.
I asked my GP who told me not possible,i went away and experimented. I started to flex chest muscles(bodybuilder style)and felt around sternem area and found their was definite movement,if i felt food struggling to move down i would flex my pecs and the food would move through.
Ihave had plenty of practice now,and strangely can eat with out restrictions of fear and anxiety which has domino effect with confidence when eating in company, which always held fears of it's own.
So in summary if your food won't move and you get that FEELING try and hold your nerve flex your pecs, you will have to work out the srength of your flex,i found out after a while softfully or subtley can work just as well as forceful movements and no-one at the dinnertable is any wiser!
I hope this helps somebody as it has plagued me for nearly a decade

Your post describes my situation exactly, I'm 49, the food stuck, big bites, the mucus, extra water sometimes works, walking around sometimes works and if not then inducing. I've been dealing with it for about a year now and just finally researching it. Have you had any medical consult and if so what were the results?

HI i hope this helps,i have recently commented on here before, i have had a similar experience for years, the choking experience is awful had scopes and have had the surgeon suggest esophogeus transplant!!! Iwas'n't to keen on that one,so just kept hoping something would change. This condition definetly is made worse by stressful situations and rushing the meal, also foods with dryness such as rice or steak can be a challange. However i found to my relief that the esophogeus can be influenced by external movement.Try it yourself by putting your hands out in front ,palms together and pressing them together, you will find you are flexing your chest muscles. The lower you drop your hands the lower you will influence the esophogeus the higher you raise the hands you will find the higher end of the esophogeus will be influenced. In bodybuilding language you are flexing your pecs, practice in front of a mirror ,if you can, put left hand on sternem and flex with right side and you will feel movement around the sternem.I have strictures in the top and bottom of esophogeus so i know this will work.It will take a little time to get confidence but i assure you you will be able to move the food down with this movement.I know this may sound a bit strange but it works ,if you persist you can sit at the dinner table without moving anything and just flex the pecs,no one will be any wiser, takes a little while but i found if the food starts to slow down and you get that feeling flex 3-4 times quickly and this will physcially move the food down and if still need help drink a little water and flex 3-4 times again.I realise no-ones situation is exactly the same but i am hoping this may help you with your difficulties
