I have this same problem only in the last year it has gotten much worse. I had surgery on my neck where they went thru the front of my neck to put plates/screws to fuse it, I was thinking this had something to do with it. I am not sure about this now, everytime I eat something no matter how well I chew it up and small bites it lodges and I have to make it come back up. When I drink the liquid it has no where to go but back up it is blocked. This has gotten worse and with the stomach problems that run in my family it is a little scary. Was laid off from my job so going to the doctor without insurance is pretty costly. My new insurance does not kick in for two months, any ideas over the counter?

I've suffered from this same problem. Actually right now I'm having problems getting down some sandwhich that I ate earlier. 3 days ago I had an EGD done. They said that I have food allergies and gave me a steroid. My problem is that my throat is swollen from things I'm allergic to. I have never known about any other food allergies that I have besides peanuts. So this all sounds a little strange to me, but he said if I take the steroid in a couple of months that I should be fine assuming I avoid the things I'm allergic to afterwards.

hello friends, this problem is called Achalasia, and there are different stages of problems, and different solutions, like primary Achalasia should go in few minutes to an hour, do not panic you will not end being breathless, if you have sallowed lots of food already and that is stuck in food pipe then try to vomit it, do not sleep, or at least you should but thick pillow, stay calm, your muscle in wind pipe is over active currently its just that, so give it a time, it will go away. But if this happens everyday you should consider going to a doctor, you may be suggested simple surgery only if extremely necessary.

I had Dysphagia since i was about 4 months old, and im currently 14 years old. I have had surgery done several times, and have had food stuck many times, at least 5 times a year for every year of my life. Usually, i just keep trying to force it down, and it goes down about 30 minutes -2 hours. Now that im older, i seem to have this problem diminish, but its much worse now. I cant swallow my own natural salavia, i lose sleep b/c of fear of choking from it, and all night i keep forcing the food down, only to get it unstuck after 4-7 hours of doing so. So ya.. i know what this all feels like, and i really hope that someone can tell me and many others of an effective method of clearing this up.

Hello all
I've had this problem for going on 20 or so years now. I've had several scopes down my throat, taken Prilosec (before it was OTC) all in hopes of eating like a normal person. Relief from the Throat scopes was about 2 weeks, Prilosed seemed to give me heartburn rather than relieve any if I had any at all to beging with.
What I've found most effective is to regurgitate what won't go down. Sounds gross but it is instant relief! A nice dinner out with family is purely out of the question as it always results in a trip to the Mens room to relieve myself. Thanksgiving dinner is hardly enjoyable but one does have to eat. I find smaller portions, lots of chewing and last but not least, can't eat and talk! I've learned over the years how to force it down but it can be quite painful, seems to be mind over matter (food matter that is). I think I'll go back to the Dr. to see if there is any new information out there to help once and for all.

I had taken my vitamins and again got them stuck in my throat and thought great i will have to wait til tmrw til i dont have to worry about it. I did a search and liked the idea of viniger and bubbly like soda n was about to try that. Already drinkn hot coffe thinkn it would wear it down, i began spitn out the mucus that was building up instead of swallowing, feeln the damn pill, and burping. I found that after a short while of being kinda patient with it that spittn out the mucus worked. Usually i keep swallowing.

I have been dealing with this problem for a couple of years now and I had the same symptoms usually first bite of food, water or tea won't pass always come back up along with alittle of the food and is still stuck. It is very painful and scary I found that a drink of coke, pepsi, anything carbonated works. It allows the food to pass as soon as I burp very weird but it works.....I hope this helps. I no longer am able to order my sweet tea out at a resturant because I'm afraid I will get choked and need the soda. I also always have something carbonated in the house. In fact It just happened to me tonight first bite of dinner I felt it getting lodged in my lower chest area I panic grabbed the closest thing to me to drink which just happened to be tea and ran to the bathroom as it was coming back up along with little bits.It was still stuck I remembered the spite in the fridge took a drink and within a few seconds I burped and the food passed down. I am very thankful I found something that works for me and hope it will help you guys also.

Yes, I am having the same problem. I have had 2 nissens and 2 incisional hernia repairs as a result. After the first incisional hernia ( 1 month after 2nd nissen), I started having trouble. That was in 2007. My gastroenterologist has completely blown me off. I just had an esophogram last week in which the radiologist told me that my esophogus was too narrow to accept the 13mm barium tablet and that there was NO WAY I would be able to swallow it. Yet my gastroenterologist refuses to do anything about it. Now I have scheduled an appointment in the swallowing clinic at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, to see if they will at least tell me what to do or expect for the rest of my life. I feel like the surgeon screwed up and everyone is trying to cover up.

Hi! im 17 years old and i have similar issues. This week im at a volleyball camp so pretty much every muscle in my body hurts but that's not the problem. One day in the middle of the court it felt like i was coughing up a lung and after that these similar symptoms have occurred! I have acid reflux and my mom told me it could just be indigestion so i took some tums and my medication but i take my mediation for my acid reflux everyday. It hurts to drink and eat (or basically swallow) and sometimes when i take deep breaths, burping and regurgitation, a lot of it too. I have went to a lot of websites and looked up these symptoms and the two things that kept coming up were GERD and ESOPHOGITIS. But what i still don't understand is does this mean that i have something stuck in my throat? I know i should go see a doctor but does this require surgery or anything it all sounds kind of freaky! please help!!!

I had nissen about 8 years ago and it was great for years, but now I am beginning to have some reflux again and other symptons such as the feeling something is stuck in my throat. This is different than immediately after you have the nissen and, bread, chicken and other foods are easlly stuck, this is more like swelling. I wonder if my fundoplication has come undone or herniated. My gi doctor has since retired and I have to locate a new one. That will probably be my first question to my PCP when I see him soon. Anyone have problems years after having the nissen fundoplication performed?[/list]

Might be Barrette's disease. They don't show the trouble swallowing/food being stuck as a common symptom, but it seems to be. Runs in my dad's side of the family. They do some procedure where they "stretch" the esophogus out. Don't know a lot of details, but hopefully this helps. Starting to notice that now I am having a hard time getting food to go down. Feels like I have a pocket in my throat that catches it. So maybe I will have more details later.
