I don't remember feeling like this when I started running last year, but I just really don't have that ambition this go around. Maybe it was that impromptu vacation I took... didn't run but did help my father rearrange his garage and shed (our first full day there I managed to hurt my hamstrings, have no idea how--was so achy, plus I picked up a nasty UTI, so I was uncomfortable).

I hit the treadmill yesterday (and also on Wed) and did a 35-minute brisk walk (kept my heart rate at about 165bpm) and enjoyed it immensely. I've always loved the mill. I'm a freak, I know. So that's not the problem. I think I'm just not into it like I thought I would be.

Maybe it's just the timing. I might just keep hitting the mill every other day with the brisk walking thing and maybe once I've been doing it for a while I will want to run. I know that walking is better than doing nothing, but I really wish I had that desire I had before. I just cannot seem to get mentally psyched up for it.

I think we all hit those phases. I've had a great week of running so far, yet this morning, I've been sitting here on the couch in my running clothes for well over an hour. I'm just not up for it mentally today. Usually, on these days, once I get started it's a great run. Maybe try that on the mill. Promise yourself you'll do your brisk walk for 10, run 10, then finish with 5 walking. If you don't do it, you still got your exercise in, and if you begin running, maybe you'll want to keep it up.

Another thing to consider is that this is your first summer down in the Southeast. When I moved from Indiana down here, it took me a good two years to really get acclimated to the constant heat and humidity.

And that heat and humidity is not just a "running" thing, it's ALL THE TIME. So it tends to be draining physically. Which then makes your runs suffer. Which then makes you just want to stay indoors in the nice, comfortable air conditioning. And there's nothing wrong with that, just give yourself some time to get used to this type of wonderful weather.

Hang in there. I think we've all gone through phases where we just can't get physched up enough to hit the road/treadmill.

Do like Katzoo said and promise yourself a little walk / run blend. That works for me because I walk so slow that I can't stand it so I'll run just to make the time go faster.

I have recently had a couple weeks like that but it seems to have passed, or at least it did last week. For me it seems tocome in waves, a few days I hate it and then I have an unexpected good day and I love it for the next week or so.

Keep up the walking and you'll get the urge to throw some running in there befoer you know it.

I have the toughest time doing anything productive in the summer, for the reasons Fla said. Humidity and heat are SOOO draining......and I swear I get SAD in reverse--most people get it in the cold, dark winter, I get it in the summer. Try to hang in there and hopefully when fall hits you'll be better. October and November are great down in Charlotte!!!

And there's an awesome 10K if they still run it, the Outback Outreach 10K that you could run....maybe training for a race would motivate you? Just a thought. I love that race, and Outback Steakhouse caters the post race munchies.....so yummy yum!!!

I'll have to ask Jen where that mountain is we went hiking on, it's about 40 mins outside of the city proper, I can't for the life of me remember which one it was, but the scenery there is beautiful and the trails are of varying lengths. I miss Charlotte since they moved back to Cincy! :(
