Wow! I feel so much better knowing im not the only one . Ok so i went to the doc a few months after getting my mirena iud which i have had for 7 months now and mentioned a smell that my husband noticed during sex and to my shock she said there was no sign of infection. So what the heck now should i take it out or ask for antibiotics anyway i really need my love life to go back to normal especially since we spent 9 months not allowed to have sex due to high risk pregnancy and then the iud made me bleed for 4 months and now the smell ." NOT GOOD"

I am so glad that Im not alone here. I have NEVER n my life had an odor like this, no complaints in that department. Until I had the copper IUD put in. As painful as the insertion was, I was not warned about this aweful smell. I am so embarrased its not funny! I was engaged at the time I got the IUD and am now recently single. Its put a damper on what I can and can not do. ( Not that I had any plans on doing anything) I am so confused, and I keep telling myself its got to be the copper and my body trying to adjust to this object! I need answers or this thing is coming out! LOL

I am so thankful I found this website! for nearly two months now I have had problems with vaginal odor. I'm 28 years old, and never in my life have I had a problem like this. I got the Mirana about three months ago, and shortly after, I experienced severe bleeding, therefore I associated my "odor" with the bleeding. But for the past 3 weeks I have noticed the odor more and more. It's to the point where I feel self conscious at work, and when I take my clothes off I am very secretive about it, jump right in the shower, and immediately put my clothes in the wash. My husband is extremely frusterated because he thinks I'm using this as an "exuse" to not be intimate, when the fact of the matter is, I'm so self conscious I don't want him near me. There are days when it isn't there at all, and there are other days when I have a large amount of discharge, varying in color, and the odor is something I would not wish upon my worst female enemy. I'm glad I found this website! I'm going to the store to purchase the RePhresh medicine I've been hearing about! I love my IUD, but I can't deal with this any longer! Once again, I'm so glad I'm not alone and I found this website! Thank-you to all of you beautiful women who were open and honest with their stories!

I also see military docters..I have had the iud for three in a half years and I have never had any problems with it..hell I was even telling all my frieds to get it...than about four months ago it started (the smell)...I thought my husband gave me an std as well so I went and got a full check up.. and a test for bv everything was normal,, my docter said sometimes womens bodies goes through changes so I waited a week and then i couldn't take the smell, and its bad when your husband notices so I went back and the docter did another bv test still negative she didn't know what to say so she gave me the medicine and the smell went away for one week and then came back so I went back again had more tests still negative the dr gave me medicine again for bv and it went away, and one month later its back...i stopped having sex with my husband more than two months ago...i started trying to figure out what would cause that smell and it hit me i have an iud inside me...so i started looking on the internet and noticed other women with the same problem me and husband sat down and read all the different post..needless to say my appt is next week for the removal....there is no dr that can talk me into keeping this thing inside me...i would rather use a condom than go throught this...

OMG! I feel so much better now. I thought it was just me questioning the weird "ammonia like" smell. I even went in for an STD testing and was clean (my boyfriend better thank heavens) . I've had the IUD for six months now and the odor started a few months ago. I'm thinking of taking it out because I have gotten so self conscious about it. I also feel like everyone has noticed. I just can't deal with the other birth control methods. Do men's birth control methods have these types of side effects? Probably not. It's not fair.

Ladies....thank you so much for sharing your experience. I too, like many of you, have just experienced this smell for the last couple of weeks. To the lady who referred the product RePhresh... I will DEFINATELY give that a try. Thank you for the tip!!!

:-( I, thankfully, have a roommate that has the copper IUD and she'd explained her concerns about the odor before I got the Mirena. She'd thought it was just due to the copper in hers, but low and behold, I have acquired the dreaded smell also. I'm very upset about it to the point of ending my sex life at this point. It's good to hear advice like the RePhresh and Femanol. I'm going to try both products, I'm willing to do anything! I hated the Depo shot and couldn't imagine trying to remember the pill, so I'm going to try what I can before having this awful thing removed....

I HAD THE IUD FOR 3 YEARS ... IT REALLY DON'T MATTER WHAT U DO YOU CAN WASH UP WITH UNSCENTED SOAP USE RE-FRESH GEL SPRAY DEODORANT SPRAYS THAT WILL ONLY COVER UP THE SMELL FOR A MINUTE. THE DISCHARGE YOUR HAVING THE SMELL YOUR SMELLING WILL ALWAYS BE THERE.. THE ONLY RIGHT THING TO DO IS GET IT TAKEN IT OUT GET A PRESCRIPTION FOR BV AND DOUCHE WITH VINEGAR AND WATER AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME... DOUCHING IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU BUT IF YOU ONLY DO IT ONCE A MONTH WHEN YOUR PERIOD GOES OFF YOU BE OK... ANOTHER THING EVEN IF YOUR MARRY OR IN A STEADY RELATIONSHIP AND YOUR NOT TRYING TO HAVE KIDS ITS STILL GOOD FOR UR MATE TO PULL OUT OR USE A CONDOM WHEN HAVING SEX BECAUSE HIS SPERM MIGHT NOT MIX WITH YOURS AND THAT'S ANOTHER REASON YOU WILL HAVE UNPLEASANT SMELLS... I HOPE THIS INFO IS HELPFUL AND I WISH EVERYONE GOOD LUCK......

Have booked to have mine removed tomorrow! Been thinking about it the last 6-8 weeks.
Have had cramps, tender breasts, weight gain. But worst of all is the smell...It's not always there, this week there is no smell at all, but last week I was aware of it all the time, really strong. I reckon I get it two weeks out of every four. It's not pleasant at all, not sure how I would describe it, probably strong and hormonal!
Will update you in a couple of weeks....

I have had my Copper IUD in since 2006. The bv comes and goes and comes and goes. For the first year I was in and out of the doctor monthly, and she would prescribe Flagyl which would only lead to a yeast infection, then I would take OTC Yeast infection medication which would bring me right back to the bv. I have tried all of the natural remedies to no avail. The frequency of the BV or whatever it is causing the smell has reduced to about once a month right before my cycle, but I am at my wits end! I have stuck with it for so long because birth control with hormones gives me blood clots, and I was told this was my most effective option. I am tired of the odor and discharge, and swapping panty liners multiple times a day...I quit! As effective as it is, I am not sure it is worth the insecurities.

I just had my Paragard placed a few days ago, and the smell is so disgusting. I am sitting at work now with my legs tightly closed. I have tried liner and tissue to keep my panties from getting that smell on them, but nothing is helping. I only smell it later in the day, but I work 11 hours a day and can't go home to change. I am calling my doc tomorrow because I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to douche or sit in water because the doc said something about a risk of infection the first 3 wks and Lord KNOWS I don't want that. You're not the only female that I have heard say something about the smell. If I have to have this thing removed and go with the DepoProvera, I will do exactly that. I cannot take this smell. The nausea isn't coming from the placement of the IUD- IT'S COMING FROM SITTING HERE SMELLING THIS! >:( :$ >;)

My doctor said, "Wear a pad for the next two months - in case there is some spotting." Did she mean, "Rotting."

Rotten Crotch I call it. It's the most disgusting smell! I'm 6 months into the mirena - to control heavy bleeding - which it has now - but this smell - I sometimes think there is something dead in my kitchen or laundry room - then I remember it's just me. To those of you with concerns about your partner, my husband's response to my smelly concern was, "you smell like my woman," are all men pigs?

I'm 47, and don't yet qualify for a hysterectomy - how much humiliation need one suffer before a hysterectomy? I have hoped for one for the past two years - thinking it may end my humiliating blood episodes, also think it may be a way of loosing - 2 - 5 pounds? Anyway - the smell or the furniture - is now my question.

You young ladies - brace yourself for some shocking behavior of your own ahead. Two women shared their humiliating stories with me while I was in my 30s - I thought these women must be unclean and irresponsible; who would go to a bank and leave blood on the bank managers chair? Who would leave a trail of blood on the carpet as they leave a shoe store in the mall? . . . then at age 45 I found myself carrying a diaper bag - diapers, wipes, extra outfits . . . FOR MYSELF. Twice (really two times), my bleeding was so sudden and heavy - I bled right through my enormous mattress size pad and onto my car seat. Both times I got that warm feeling and woosh - before I could pull over - before I could put a towel between me and the seat - it gushed right past any kind of protection and stained my seat. Both times I was wearing a longee - the kid of pad that starts at your navel and goes clear around to your shoulder blades. Twice - I got my car detailed and when the car detail guy would say, "we're having a hard time getting this spot out of the driver's seat - do you know what the spot might be?" I felt some shame . . . but then lied, "I have no idea." Will I ever sit on upholstery again?

Depends, have been my good friends these past two years. I'm just learning how to sleep in underwear again.
Now I'm looking for scented pads - or large enough pads to keep the odor from escaping . . . or do they make plastic pants in my size?
I love being a girl.
