It's actually amazing to see that so many people have felt this too. I, like many of you, use to have these "episodes" a lot more often when I was younger and especially during high school. So often in fact that it's unsettling not to get them now.. (I'm 20, soon turning 21). It's a feeling that's SO hard to get into words exactly and it has been kind of different sometimes. Like I would get times where things processed really fast in my head and my thoughts would scatter and just go like a million miles a second. So fast that I would think to myself "stop being crazy" or something along those lines and it would repeat like 100 times on its own but everything outside of me was going either at normal speed or extreeeemelllly slow. And it wouldn't be like it looked slow but like although my mind was racing, it would process everything in slow motion. Also, I would get times when my mind was the really realllly slow one and the world was going fast. It's so uncomfortable and talking about it now gives me like the sense of it being on the vurge of happening but doesn't quite go through all the way. I can't remember the last time it happen.. Probably almost a year ago but it's not something I can ever forget. Like I said before, it used to happen so often that it's like I'm waiting for it all of the time. Makes me feel so crazy.. Gahhh. I'm thinking of talking to my psych professor about it and see what she has to say lmao.. Anyways! I hope we all find the answer or atleast comfort in eachother. I would always ask my friends if they ever felt it and everyone always said no. Strange..

Wow im just having one of those feeling right now and i wanted to check if that has happened to anybody else. Just like you i had theese 'fast feelings' much often as a kid and i used to think that this was my superpower or somebodyelse in the world has just made time go faster but only i could feel it. Anybody knows what causes this?

This is exactly what happens to me. My thoughts go really fast. I've never been around people when they happen. Or I don't remember at least. But I feel really strange. I once went and stood in front of the mirror to see if my hands are actually moving fast or anything but they weren't. Only my thoughts were all over the place. My own voice in my head was on fast forward. I just hope I'm not crazy.

Guys look up depersonalization/derealization disorder. I found it while reading in my psychology textbook! It's kind of the symptoms we all kept talking about. Maybe it'll help explain things.

This is crazy. I dont get the small/ bigger sensation. But what yall are saying about the fast/intense/uncomfortable sensations happen to me as well. They DO wear off quick, and do only happen every once in a blue moon. Worth noting: they started with me when I was very young as well, and they seemed to have stopped for a number of years. The "episodes" recurred within the past 6 months and I have had 2 this week, 1 of which happened to me tonight. I do not believe it is micropsia or alice in wonderland disorder, because objects do not appear farther or closer/smaller than they are. But if I had to describe it simply: Thoughts, movements, sounds seem really fast and enhanced, although I am aware that in reality they are not. No one on the internet seems to know what exactly these episodes are or what triggers them.

This is how it is for me as well. Exactly. Except for the it happened to me when I was young. I'm 22 now and they've been happening for a few years I think. I'd really like to know what these fast feelings are. What's happening in my head and all that.

Hi yes Its good to know your not crazy lol, same thing here, I am 20 now but still get it infrequently, I tend to feel near to being nauseous and that there was almost an anger peoples voices when it happens, distorted perception?. I always found something sugary like a Mars bar and milk took it away quickly, dunno if this was just comforting eating though :)

When i was in my teens i used to have these fast hypertensive moments where everything would speed up, but in a slow motion. The television, noises, my speech.  I havnt thought about it in a long time.  I remember when i would zone out on a video game is when i would get the episode and tonight i was doing the same thing just odd after so long have i felt this way, I just had to look it up trying to figure out why now.   I am now 36 and I just had an episode its been 20 years since i have felt this way.  Only last about 5 minutes but it is the strangest feeling.  Everything just all of a sudden speeds up and than i feel dizzy and a head ach comes on.

I'm so glad I came upon this thread!  Just today my mom brought up how as a kid sometimes I'd run to her scared from my room and that she didn't understand since I couldn't explain it to her at that age so I finally got to explain how it felt.

I would get this all the time as a kid where all of a sudden my thoughts and any noises would feel like they were much louder and much quicker, things felt weird to the touch (especially my tongue - almost as if it was swollen and fuzzy), and everything looked slow motion yet also more intense somehow. It would always happen while I was alone so it scared me and I'd run to join my parents wherever they were in the house.

I still get it from time to time (just this week actually).  It's interesting how many people have experienced this!

Oh and also, I have no idea whether this is related or not, but I get deja vu very frequently. So many times I'll be having a conversation and could swear that I've had the exact conversation before. I normally just assume I must have dreamed it since I get very vivid dreams all the time.

It doesn't bother or scare me anymore, in fact, I find it quite interesting, but I wish there was a way of knowing what causes this to happen.

Hi everyone!  I'm 33 and I also remember first getting these episodes since I was 7 or 8.  It was only until I was in my teens when I talked about it to my brother and discovered that he also experiences the same episodes.  We both shared the exact same symptoms.  When things are quiet and calm is when we usually experience this - our thoughts, speech and movements feel intense and (as someone on this forum also mentioned) it feels like I'm going either very slow or very fast.  Sometimes, it feels like someone is urging/taunting me to "go faster".  Other times (just like an hour ago), it feels like an earthquake in my mind.

I got an episode a couple weeks ago while reading.  The room was very quiet and it's been a while since I've felt that calm and relaxed.  In the middle of reading, the fast feeling suddenly came.  I texted my brother right away while it was happening to let him know & joke around about it.

Then again today, but I wasn't relaxed when it happened & this time it was only the fast earthquake feeling.  I just experienced this an hour ago while on the computer, planning my son's birthday.  I felt a bit nervous thinking of what I need to do today, then I suddenly felt the shaky, fast feeling in my mind.  It only lasted a minute because I immediately Googled "fast feeling in my head" and came across this lovely forum with you lovely people.  It only took a minute to forget about it this time, but in the past I'm guessing it lasted somewhere between 1-10 minutes for me.  I've never timed it and never tried to ride it out, but I bet it could last longer.  Now that I'm not afraid of it, I will try to see how long I can make it last if it happens again, I'll time it and I'll also try to be more aware of the sensations.  Then when it's gone, I'll write it all down and share with you all.

It's amazing how many people also experience this!!  Thanks for sharing, everyone!

growing up i always felt this way, exactly as you have described. now i describe it as an apprehensive feeling. it was like a reoccuring dream and when i think about it now i remember it vividly, it was as if i were standing in a field of logs moving quickly around me and i was standing still, it happens when i read, or when i accidently miss my meds its like things start firing off in my head quicker then i can process and i have to sleep to get rid of it. feedback?

I have had this for years. I recall my first one when I was about 7. I haven't had one in years. But they scare me so bad. I start to think it won't stop and I will go insane. You described it perfectly. I have never been able to. Only my family knows. Not my parents - but my husband and children. Because when it does happen I just tell them be quiet that I am having a "fast thing". I can't stand myself or anyone talking when it happens. I am so grateful for you post. But have you found out what it was?
