In my most recent period I discovered an odd tissue-like chunck when I removed my tampon. It was about a dime's size wide, and about two quarters in length. I have had blood clots before, but had never had anything of this size, and it did not look anything like a blood clot, and was much more durable. It seemed like it may have been flat, and looked like a membrane. It was darker red towards the top, and almost white towards the bottom and stringy. From what I have read it seems that this is likely a chunk of uteran wall, and I am only concerned because I have recently had some unusal menstrual experiences. Here goes.

About a month and a half ago I had a very unusual period. It was unusual for several reasons. I have always been the poster child for perfect periods - short, light, extremely regular, I have had cramps maybe twice in my life. The only thing I have ever had is lower back pain during my periods. However, this period came five days early, something I don't know if has ever happened before (I am regular almost to the hour). I also had several relatively large blood clots, when before I have only rarely had a few small clots, and not for a couple of years. It also lasted much longer than usual. I generally only bleed for 4 days max, but this period lasted 7 or 8 days, and the last few days were spotty rusty-red blood. Despite the irregularities I would have only been slightly confused, if it had not been that I had been having strange symptoms for the past month/month and a half. Starting a month and a half before this odd period I had started to regularly feel extremely ill, sometimes almost to the point of throwing up. Certain foods made me very ill, especially coffee. I simply could not drink it. My breasts also were more sore than they have ever been before for this entire time, and seemed larger (my boyfriend even noted this, without prompting). I have never had particularly sore breasts, but this time any physical activity was excruciating, and even just having them lightly touched was uncomfortable. However, about a month before the odd period I had some light bleeding when my period was supposed to come, but it was very light and my breasts felt no better after it like they would normally do. Therefore, like anyone still reading this, I was concerned that I may have been pregnant and miscarried (I am sexually active, and always use contreception, but of course it is not perfect). However, being young and stupid (I'm 19), I decided the best response was to do nothing. I did take a pregnancy test the day I started bleeding, but I, being very anxious, downed an entire water bottle to have to pee, and I worry that I diluted my urine too much to have gotten an accurate result.

So, in light of all this, does the tissue I passed during this period become any more concerning? I have had one normal period in betwee this one and the irregular one. Is it possible that there is tissue left in my uterus from the possible miscarriage I should be worried about? I have also lost several pounds recently with no change in diet. I was down a few pounds after feeling ill before the irregular period, but since then I have continued to lose weight even though I have returned to completely normal eating habits.

Any thought or advise?

Oh, and additionally I had very little back pain during the unusual period, but pain all through my lower abdomen, especially on the left side. I had also had sharp pains in my abdomen about two weeks before the unusual period, happening only a couple of time in a couple of days but being fairly strong. Again, this was not something that happens regularly to me.
