I had lipo in November 2017 on my flanks lower abdomen and upper inner thighs

Once original post op swelling had subsided the results were great but after 3 to 4 months my upper abdomen started swelling and becoming very uncomfortable this has continued ever since along side being unable to eat normal sized meals my digestion doesn't seem right.

My upper abdomen is never right but I have learnt eating carbs big meals and sometimes standing to long seems to make it 10 times worse so just try to not aggrevate it

My upper abdomen now looks completely abnormal along side my lower abdomen I would actually say I look worse now than I did before

I do feel better having seen so many others with the same issues not that I wish it on anyone but I started to think maybe my body had just changed but I knew it was to much of a coincidence.  you can't find anything about this anywhere when you searche online which i find really odd

Has anyone had any feedback from doctors with regards to it?

I know its my own fault as I choose this but why is this not talked about

I'm sorry to hear about your experience after liposuction. Possible reasons for post-liposuction swelling and discomfort can be:

  1. Lymphatic Fluid Buildup: After liposuction, the body can produce excess lymphatic fluid in the area that was treated, leading to swelling.

  2. Seroma Formation: A seroma is a pocket of clear serous fluid that sometimes develops in the body after surgery. It's essentially a pocket of fluid that's trapped in a place where tissue has been removed.

  3. Diet and Digestion: While the link between liposuction and digestive issues is not well-established, it's possible that post-operative swelling, especially in the abdominal area, could press against the digestive organs and affect their function.

  4. Fibrosis: This is the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue in an organ or tissue. It's a reparative or reactive process and can cause hard, lumpy areas after liposuction.

Next Steps:

  1. Consult with Your Surgeon: It's crucial to see the surgeon who performed the liposuction to discuss your concerns. They can provide specific insights into your recovery and address any complications.

  2. Seek a Second Opinion: If you're unsatisfied with the feedback from your surgeon, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion from another board-certified plastic surgeon or even a dermatologist familiar with liposuction complications.

  3. Lymphatic Drainage Massage: Some patients benefit from this type of massage, which can help reduce swelling and improve the appearance and feel of the treated area.

  4. Support Groups and Forums: Online communities, such as RealSelf, can be helpful in connecting with others who have had similar experiences.

  5. Raise Awareness: If you feel that these complications aren't talked about enough, consider joining or creating a support group, writing a blog post, or otherwise sharing your experience to help others make informed decisions.
