I'm 26 and I have the same problem from the past six months. I'm scared of sneezing now. my doctor thought I was having some acidity problems and just sent me home with some antacids. I've noticed that the pain gets worse when I'm more tired, or have a fever or reduce my intake of food. But it still pains everyday.

You might have SOD. Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. It took me 4 years to figure out this unbearable pain. When the attack would happen, it was so bad at times, it made me feel like an arm amputation without anesthesia would be less painful. Sometimes it is a side effect of gallbladder removal and sometimes people just have it. I would also start dripping in sweat, so bad that I would soak my shirt. SOD is where your main bile duct (the duct that floats bile to your stomach from your pancreas) does not open and close correctly and the bile gets backed up in your upper stomach. It has sent me to the ER two times now, but have experienced this pain many times in the last four years.Sometimes throwing up would give me relief. Doctors have become much more educated on SOD in the last couple of years. There are certain triggers for it. You can look it up on the internet. There is a lot out there about it now. I recommend a good GI doctor.

Omg I'm so glad I found this website I could not describe what the pain felt like. It's like a fricken Charlie horse , the first time I experienced I was on the toilet I pushed and Omg I thought I was going to die. Went to the Dr they thought it was hernia but per the surgeon it was not. So it happened yesterday and I'm still sore and now I feel like my back hurts. Was debating whether I should go to Dr or not I just might I can't stand the pain.

I'm glad I found others with what I've been suffering with for over 4 yrs. I get the Charlie horse like cramps in either low left or right lower or left or right upper abdomen. It takes my breath away, knots up and can't move. It happens with no real warning. I can be sitting, standing, laying down and even laying in the tub. The worst is when I get 2 at the same time. My Dr looks at me like I'm crazy. Looks like I'm not.

It is great to find these posts after searching all night!! I still want to know the CAUSE! Now that I have a RX for Nexium twice a day, I only have "spells" rarely, 2-3 times a year, I have to stay on the toilet (sorry, tmi) sometimes an hour or two, I can't move, no position except for sitting there helps, white, clammy, I hesitate to use the word "painful" but EXTREMELY uncomfortable. The last couple of times I had to sit with the trashcan in front of me and was GLAD to vomit (sorry, again, tmi) it made me feel better, first time it happened, I thought I was having a heart attack!!
MY PROBLEM NOW, is the CRAMPS, SPASMS whatever they are...in the upper middle part of my abdomen. They have become increasingly worse. Started out when I bend over (tie my shoes, pick up something, etc.) now I also have them just driving in my car or if I move the wrong way. It feels like SOMETHING pops out and I have to lean back until I actually feel when it goes back in. JUST like as described by others on this sight! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one, I guess I can rule out some rare disease, but would love to know the cause, surely, with this many people having the same symptoms, someone has an explanation!! HELP!!

I cannot remember if my pain started right after my gallbladder was taken out but I'm sure it was close to then. I'm also having my spasms on the right side. I've been to the doctor and had and upper gi done but nothing. I had another attacking today and it lasted close to 10 minutes. It usually just take some stretching and time until it goes away.

EVERYONE! I have been also having unbearable attacks for the last few years, right in my solar plexus. All started after I had my gallbladder out, and then a leak in my bile duct.... doctors just said I was leaking bile but there wasn't anything they could do about it. These attacks were debilitating!

They didn't realize it was actually severe spasms until recently, apparently brought on by 1) stress and 2) bile not being properly absorbed, which can happen after gallbladder removal. They gave me a medicine:

DICYCLOMINE

and it is a freakin godsend!!! I had an attack last night and I took a pill and, like magic, the pain subsided in a matter of SECONDS. Seriously. I hope you all can get your hands on some of this stuff and I wish you all well. I know how you feel and what you have been through. Ask your doc for this stuff! It's cheap ($8 or so) and it WORKS.

I'm a male 24 years old I have been having these upper side spasms for about a year now.I get them on my right or left side it feels like a muscle cramp the feeling is uner my armpits on the sides of my pecks/side rib areas and if I turn or twist a certain way and hold my self in that position for a few moments it goes away just like when you get leg cramps you have to find the right position to put your leg in and it will slowly go away after a few moments.. but if you leave that position before the spasm is over it comes back full force again! I find if I don't drink as much water in the day I get them and sometimes when I turn over in bed.. it is completely random and there is no real pattern i could not have the feeling for weeks and then all of a sudden a few days in a row they will come and go it's really annoying and I look real stupid trying to stretch them out in public haha what an odd thing this is...

I am 45, I have had this really hard lump in the upper left quadrant of my abdomen under/near my rib cage. I have gotten horrible Charlie horse spasms bending over wrong or tying my shoes. I have to lay back of stretch abdomen to get it to stop. I have had a laparoscopy, I had endometriosis in past the Dr commented it was all over. I am wondering if it is endometriosis, certain times during my cycle it is achy... Endometriosis can grow in upper abdomen and could easily attach to ab muscles. I wonder in women are the only ones talking bout it, no men?
