I'm also a right side sufferer of this same exact condition which started about 8 years ago. I also suffer from GERD and have used Prilosec for years with is a Godsend for the acid reflux, but this is something else. I find that standing straight up with my hands over my head does the trick and easier to do than lying flat on the floor especially when out and about. I fear long car trips because that sitting position seems to bring it on more consistently than any other, although any sitting position or sit-ups/crunches will eventually bring it on. I lost a lot of weight, but that did nothing at all to effect a change. I've had abdominal ultrasounds and some others tests and certainly blood test, but have received no affirmative diagnosis. It has affected my lifestyle to a great degree at this point because it can come on in the middle of an important meeting etc. I was already post-menopausal at the time of the first spasm (early menopause).

I've been following this post as I had the same problem after having my first child and it now seems to have been rectified. I rang the paramedics the first time and they could find no reason for my pain, nor the doctors. The first time I had the pain was a couple of weeks after having a c-section, I did a really big stretch when yawning in bed and it felt like I pulled something and I was in agony for an hour unable to move. It kept occurring, especially after bloating food and bending down and the pain was awful, nothing worked to stop it and I tried rennies and everything else, only some kind of stretching seemed to eventually ease it. I was checked for gallstones, which I do have, but have seen a specialist and he said that wasn't the problem. After suffering for so long and avoiding different foods to see if that was the issue I started doing pilates 5 times a week and it's not gone completely. Haven't had an episode in over 8 months. I think with my stomach muscles being weak after surgery and pregnancy I stretched them too much and something was damaged but exercising has put everything back where it should be. If you're suffering that much I'd recommend giving pilates a try for yourself, it seems to have worked for me, that is if you definitely don't have gallstones or a hernia. Hope this helps someone

I have this often.. sometimes several times in a row. I have to press on it real hard to try to stop it. Some times it will appear while I am driving and I have to pull over. No one can figure it out.

For me, the abdominal charlie horses start when I am low on potassium. My GP told me to "eat a banana every day," which I did for years. But the pain continued. Finally, I mentioned this abdominal pain to my neurologist. I have a neurological disorder whereby my body produces excessive spinal fluid). My neuro said that the medication I take to reduce the spinal fluid, Diamox (similar to Lasix) also strips the body of potassium. He said a banana would do nothing for me. I'd have to eat at least 50 a day. I now take a prescription potassium tablet (it dissolves in water like Alka Seltzer) every day, and no more charlie horses. If I get lazy and skip the potassium for a while, the abdominal cramps return.

So glad this subject came up. I get horrible upper stomach spasms, often when doing a rigorous workout with difficult core exercises. Now, I pull back on situp or certain exercises which provoke the spasms. When info get them, I can't move for a bit, it feels like a huge lump in my stomach, and it takes a while to go down. Its extremely painful. Ive googled it many times but there seems to be little info

Mine started after my 2nd C-section as well. I won't dare tell any doctors because I know there is nothing I can do about it. My mom had that pulling for 31 years and fell sick with cancer. She had her , appendix, lymph nodes, 40% of her colon and more than 4 ft of intestines surgically removed from her body to avoid the cancer from spreading...a year after that surgery and she no longer has those Charlie horses anymore. I think it's scaring tissue pulling. I can't even bend over to tie my shoes anymore. It's ridiculous to me that no one will listen to us.

I have the spasms too...
I was diagnosed with 3 Hemangioma tumors in my spine after having an MRO of the complete spine~
.
They are NOT malignant but can cause problems including spasms in the upper left abdomen region!
Has anyone else ever been diagnosed with this?

SAME here..
I had an MRI done of the complete spins and they found 3 Hemangioma tumors and they tell me they can cause this!
Hemangiomas are NOT malignant BUT can cause this and later can cause neurological problems!
Has ANYONE else been diagnosed with these?
Thank you.....

I too have been experiencing these spasms/cramp thing. Been researching also and came across this site. I've had an ultrasound and cat scan. both came up with nothing. like everyone here is saying. I too can feel the muscle on my upper right side under my ribs tightening and a hard knot forms. which is excruciating. I find pressing on it and it helps. this only lasts about a min. and the cramp is gone but my anxiety sky rockets. I have also have RLS so I've been drinking tonic water which is helping with that.
