I get the same pain as you describe when bending like tying my shoes or when sitting and bending forward. Tje pain is so bad and stops you in your tracks. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute to subside. When I mentioned to doctor she just says it must be spasms but I don't think she realizes how much it hurts.

Did you ever find out what it was? Mine started about 2 years ago. One day at work I sneezed and I had this horrible pain in my right upper abdomen. I was in so much pain I couldn't move. I sat at my desk in the same position for over 15 mins before I could finally move to the restroom. It felt like a horrible charlie horse. It was so bad and the pain left over even after it stopped was so bad that my husband picked me up from work and took me to the hospital. They didn't find anything. I went about a year before ever having it again, and then suddenly I was laughing at a convention and had it again, now 3 times since then and today it wanted to start after I sneezed. I started shaking the area hoping to stop it. I made it to bed and into a position where it doesn't hurt but I can feel it wants to start. One wrong move this evening and I know it'll happen. I had my gallery bladder taken out 3 years ago. I see other people mention the same thing. I was wondering if it was scar tissue or lack of one of the minerals like magnesium or potassium. I would love to know if you ever found out what it was.

I have similar pains. No Docs really interested. I have a few suggestions walking backwards in a pool. Taking otc cramp meds with herbs used for malaria. Or drink seltzer with quinine. Take your minerals at night separate from other meds! Gdspd mpf

Last night when I was sitting in a lazy boy chair at home, I twisted and raised my buttox, and all of my abdominal muscles and back muscles on my left side locked up. This was the most painful thing that I have ever experienced in my life, and I am 49 years old. It felt like my outer-most layer of stomach muscles were going to rip apart at any moment, and I was going to have my intestine or stomach bulge out in a hernia. I kept my hand pressed on the left side of my stomach to try to prevent a hernia. I could barely walk to my bedroom and I lay down on my bed. My abdominal muscles remain locked for about one minute to ninety seconds. I thought that if this had gone on for much longer I would have had to call an ambulance, I wasn't even worried about putting on pants or shoes, or taking my wallet or keys, just letting the paramedics take me, though I was pretty dirty and smelly from just working a 48 hour shift. I thought that I was possibly going to die from a stomach rupture, or if this cramping spread to anywhere in my chest I would die from a heart attack. I was probably dehydrated and lacked electrolytes, so I drank some Gatorade, luckily I had some. Ambulance ride would have been about $1,800 and hospital bill about $1,500 or more, I don't have health insurance.

I have had the problem for many years, which are random, and it comes and goes on either my left of right side with the pain being unreal but no one has any answers. I take potassium and Prilosec every day and they seem to have helped since I do not get the attacks as often but they still happen when I am tired and stressed. After many years of suffering I have found that an ice pack applied to the painful area will help make it go away but i am very tender for a few days afterward. I am a man and I have had the problem for most of my adult life.

I know this is an old post- but this was exactly me before they discovered I had gallstones and removed my gallbladder.

My spasms start on either side of stomach and move up to sternum. I break out into a cold dripping sweat with a rapid heartbeat. It lasts from 30-45 min. Extremely painful so I usually end up with double fists pressing into area below ribs to try easing pain. It eventually goes away but still scary...

absolutely, my pain is just like that. After I had my gallbladder out, it's as if the place that it use to be, is empty and when i bend far over , another organ moves in its place. I just breath deep, stretch and hold on until the severe muscle cramp go's away. awful

This was posted a long time ago but I looked it up wondering the same thing. It started happening when I was pregnant. I wasn't concerned about it but noticed it happening more. If it's not all this other stuff that's organ related and it's it's not neurological. Maybe it's the muscle. I wonder if we get muscle knots in our stomachs the same way we do in backs and legs? I was feeling my stomach muscles today and am wondering if those tiny little fixed bumps are my muscles and they are just tight. There does seem to be more of this bumpy texture on my left more than my right. I wonder, hopefully, the solution is constant message, hydration, electrolytes and stress management. I also have a habit of "sucking it in." Maybe that contributes to the tension? I get a c**p on my top left stomach muscle, right where my ribcage. The first time I felt it was bending over to reach something in pregnancy. I have had tense lower back mucsle since pregnancy so maybe it's the same for my tummy?
