I had a full abdominoplasty 2 years ago and my upper belly looks distended and my lower belly is too flat. It is not symetrical and I have a total curve standing sideways. I am shocked! I thought I was the only one who experienced this problem. My upper stomach is so extended. My waist is as big as my hips. Sometimes it bloats so much that it is hard to breathe. I hear a lot of people who have experienced this, but has ANYONE found the answer?

i, too, have been so uncomfortable since my tummy tuck. my surgery started out as scar revision to a scar and pouch i had from a total hysterectomy that had alot of complications afterward, and i kept ending up back in the hospital. but this discomfort is far worse than that. it feels like i must have hard, scratchy scar tissue underneath my skin & rib, especially on one side. some days i cannot get comfortable. it's hard to sit or stand. i have seen my plastic several times for this, he claims , it's me, that i'm paying too much attention and i'm just not used to feeling so much tightness because my stomach was so bad before. after ready some of these blogs i can totally relate. some days i feel so swollen and bloated, it presses hard into my upper belly and i feel constricted. like i can't eat or breathe right. it feels too tight. he thinks i'm crazy. i am a good patient and don't complain, but i can't imagine i have to live like this for the rest of my life. many days , i am sorry also i opted for this surgery. yes i look better in clothes, but is it worth it?

After reading this, I truly feel better knowing that I'm not alone. I too have gained about 10lbs. This seems to be something that we have in common. I'm encouraged to see what it feels and looks like after the weight loss.

I had my surgery about 2 years ago. Would I do it again?...probably not because I have the same issues with bloating and sometimes its difficult to breath by the end of the day. By the a.m., my tummy is flat and I feel as if I'm on top of the world but by 3:00 ish, the bloating begins. I wonder if certain foods trigger the bloating-effect?

Sometimes, I'm embarrassed to tell anyone of the surgery b/c often times it doesn't show.
Let's keep the discussion going and hopefully we can get an answer from a couragous surgeon. I know that they are reading the posts.

I had my abdominoplasty 3 years ago. I have gained about 30 lbs since my surgery but just recently noticed that my upper abdominals were very hard. No pain though. It still made me think that maybe something was medically wrong with me until reading this thread. It's over a year since the first posting and no one has given any answers so either surgeons don't know or it's a well kept secret that this will happen with even a small amount of weight gain. My lower abdomen is so much smaller that my pants constantly slide down below my waist. I am starting Jenny Craig today with the hopes that I can get some curves back and lose the tightness above my waist!

I had a tummy tuck a little over 3 years ago and I have the same problem. My lower stomach is totally flat and my upper stomach is not. It looked way better before the surgery. I have noticed that it looks worse if I gain a few pounds and way better when I lose a few but I kind of regret getting the surgery because my upper abs looked way better before.

I had a mini-ab in Nov. of 2007. My upper belly is fine. You just have to watch what you eat and as my P.S. told me, when you remove fat, i.e. from the lower abdomen, no matter how little you re-intake, it will find somewhere else to go...upper belly, face, arms, legs, butt...where ever it can deposit it's nasty little self if you don't burn it off. It's not that your P.S. tightened your muscles too much, it's that Rule of thumb is, burn the same amount + than you take in and you'll be fine. It takes 3500 calories to gain 1 pound, so if you eat 3500 calories / day (exaggeration) burn 3500+.

I am having the same experience as you all. Had tt with muscle repair 9 months ago. Weigh 100 pounds all my life...had tt after 4 pregnancies to get rid of extra skin. Now abdomen is so bloated by end of day, I'm often miserable. Flatter in the mornings, but not completely normal. Also have hardness, symmetrical, around "new" bellybutton area and pulling sensation there. Trying probiotics (2 wks. so far, no difference). Tests show slight GERD, hiatal hernia and laryngopharyngeal reflux disease. Just had bloodwork for celiac, H.Pylor, and IBD. Waiting for results. CT with contrast in two weeks. Plastic surgeon swears there's no connection between symptoms and her "work" though I never had any of these problems before the tt. Like someone said here, I'm embarrassed to say I had tt when I'm so bloated I'm wearing the same size or LARGER pants. I always have to unzip my pants now to be comfortable. Anyone getting any answers or relief???

i also had a tummy tuck over a year ago and found myself with the same issue after googling this i found out that its the procedure the way that the dr cuts there's three different way transverse and our way and T meaning your incision is under your breast bone instead of hip to hip and then one incision dwn the middle of your stomach pulling both sides in. if you ever looked at tummy tucks that they give online you see they have no scare and their stomachs are extremely flat with no buldge this is why

I am three years since my abdomenoplasty. I too have all the same signs and symptoms that everyone is talking about. I thought it was because I gained 50 pounds back that I had lost before the surgery.
I too have IBS, GERD, the tightness in my upper belly and even have constant SOB (Shortness of breath) even after walking from one room to another; which gets worse with each passing month. I thought it was asthma but it is just the tightness!
I have not been back to my plastic surgeon as he was in Hawai'i and we will not be moving back for another 8 months. I KNOW he will yell at me and have a FIT I have gained the 50 lbs. I am not happy about it either but can't seem to do anything about it. Tried resveritrol, and the acai berry. No help.My Dr. won't give me diet pills.
Glad to read I am NOT the ONLY one going through this.
Thank you everyone for sharing

Regular exercise!:) If you want a quick fix, laser liposuction may be the answer. It has a procedure that's safer compared with the traditional liposuction. There may be a facility in your area that provides this service.

I had a tummy tuck 2.5 years ago. My upper belly has been distended for the past 2 years. It is hard, no soft rolls. I wake up distended and it gets worse during the day. I can't wear my regular clothes. Please help. Is this connected to the abdominoplasty? What do we do?

WOW I can't believe I'm reading this!! (GOOD THING!) I just got a mini TT done in the beginning of July (8 wks ago) and I notice that my lower abdomen is looking great but i have fat rolls still on the top abdomen. Now I understand this takes time to heal, etc, etc, etc, however, I already look deformed and I'm pissed!! I have paid the P.S. PLENTY of money, and this is what I get? I'm in good physical condition and my weight is great, so there's no point in mentioning weight gain issues or whatever else. I am so mad I've wasted my money and time on this. Like most have mention, how can I show my abs. I'd be laughed at. I can't stand even looking at myself, stomach still looks big with punctures and scars all over me. At least I HAD nice skin! I'm going in to see my P.S. next saturday and he WILL FIX this~FOR FREE!! THIS IS THE ONLY BODY I HAVE AND I'M NOT PAYING THEM HIGH PRICE TO PLAY P.S.!! I will keep you updated on what happens next.......

I am a male had my abdominoplasty 8 years ago. My upper belly is distended and has bumps and hard near the bellt button. I have hard time buying suits as my waist is proportionally smaller to my upper body. Occasionally my stomach muscles hurt. After reading your posts it seems normal for all this symptoms to occur.

I am 10 years post TT and have never had any trouble. Then about 6 months ago I began training quite hard for a marathon and instead of losing weight and looking fit, I developed this huge distended upper abdomen. I also now have lost feeling from my breast bone down to my TT scar. I went to two doctors (not my PS) and was told that there is nothing wrong and that it is just muscle. I can only eat small amounts of food at a time or I feel horribly bloated and have a hard time breathing. It's very strange to have a flat lower tummy and now this bulge above my belly button. My weight has stayed the same all these years so weight gain is not the cause. Has anyone figured out what causes this?
