Same diagnoses of urethral syndrome. Saw the post below from theresas, Googled a lot, learned about high protein diets and what does to urine PH. I eat high protein, high fat, low carb mostly. Measured. Fluttered around at high 5s and low-mid 6s. I now take 300mg of potassium citrate with every meal that is not high potassium naturally (potatoes, bananas, etc) and my life is changed drastically. I still have mild burning and urgency from time to time, but it's actually gotten so much better that I sometimes forget to take my potassium rather than contemplating suicide on a regular basis.
I tried calcium but I was taking it in conjuction with high dose Vitamin D for joint pain and that's actually very bad as it can raise your blood calcium levels up in ways that are bad for your heart. So I dropped the calcium and just take the Vit D from time to time if I get achy and didn't notice any real difference.
I can only conclude that the potassium citrate is what makes me feel better. Considering upping my dosage to 400mg per meal to see if that's the end of any residual stuff. I read several standard dosage levels prescribed to specifically to help people with urinary acid problems due to disease and tolerance for potassium with meals should be much higher. I'm just very cautious with potassium is all.
