The problem is is that the majority of the women following this topic, have been to their Doctors and

the Doctors have disregarded it???  I am under the impression that it is because the area around the cervix is

very vascular and exertion and exercise increases the blood flow thus making light PV bleeding in some women.

I have the same problem, bleeding after I exercise and also abdominal pain. I had a colposcopy and a polyp removed. Sometimes a polyp could cause abdominal pain and bleeding…After the colposcopy my consultant discovered an opened wound in the cervix canal which he cauterised and that seemed to have solved the problem for couple of months. However, now I started to experience the same bleeding, pain on the left side of my ovaries in particular and after sport my whole tummy and sometimes back. I wonder if any of you ladies has heard of ADNEXITIS - it is a very frequent inflammation of ovaries and if untreated can cause infertility….In some countries doctors take it very seriously….I will have to check with my consultant next as this problem if found in time could be treated with antibiotics but left untreated could be a very serious cause of infertility…I hope this helps solve our mystery….

I am 28yrs old, mother of an 8.5yr old, 2.5wks ago started a workout regimen and have so far lost 8.6lbs ( ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***).  I have two times had this issue.  I started ovulating a couple days ago and had bleeding.  It happened once, surprised me, and then was gone.  Just now, it happened to me again.  This time with a heavier clear discharge and bright red blood with a few tiny clots.  It seems that for a lot of people this is a "non-issue" as far as their doctor is concerned, but I still feel that I should probably schedule an appointment with an ob-gyn soon.  It has been a while...  Anyways, I wish everyone well that is sick and for those that feel fine I am thankful... for those concerned, peace be with you.  I'm praying it is nothing and that God will give me peace over this issue.  Have a wonderful day everyone---

Hi ladies,

I've had this problem for a couple of years.  Tend to bleed mid-cycle, and particularly during/after exercise.  I went to my doctor over a year ago and she referred me to a gyno.  I had a pap smear, ultrasound scan, blood tests and STD tests and all came back fine. She couldn't see any reason for it.  My ovaries were fine.  She said if it continued then she could do a D&C.  It has continued but off and on, might be fine for a month and then not for a few months.  But I am hesitant to get a D&C without a specific reason.

It relieved me that all the tests came back fine and reading all your posts suggests it is something that is fairly common.  I was wondering if the uterine lining is weak and shedding a little during exercise and ovulation?

I am 33, never had kids, hope to in the next couple of years, never been on birth control.  As some of you have said, I get discomfort in my right side for a few days, sometimes up to almost a week, around ovulation time.

Would love to hear if anyone has heard any more answers from their doctors.

This hurts and I plan on going to the doctor asap. its good to hear that it could possibly be something not so serious. My pains reccently started it has happened twice so far but I am going to see a specalist. My stomach feels sore and the blood is like a heavy day today. Yesterday it was lighter but when I woke up this morning my bed was full of blood I am now worried that there is a slight chance tha it maybe serious. Well I am praying that it is not to much to worry about

Oh I soo pleased that I am not the only one. I am nearly 41 and just over year ago starting bleeding in between cycles, went to Drs and hospital and had all the tests done, everything was clear and normal, they wanted to put me on the pill but said no. Cos of my age they have put me on mild HRT, which helps but the bleeding in between cycles is more when have been excerising and running. Is this what us women have to put up with, but unfortunately interferes when having sex!

Went doctors she taken tests but tried blaming it on depo but i got it before that. I just wanna know if its normal.....

Interesting that so many have this problem! I first had this happen several months ago. Almost every time I would Excercise, I would have some spotting...red, sometimes pink, sometimes brown. Sometimes around ovulation, sometimes not. I had my gyno appt. and asked about it...exam was normal, hormone levels normal, I'm not on the pill and haven't been for 10 years. Im 34, I have 2 children, 6 and 8. The NP didn't know what it could be, but also wasn't really concerned. I just didn't like it, and wanted to see if it would stop when I stopped exercising...so it did, and I basically just gave up on working out. Shortly after that though, I started to have some pretty bad pain during ovulation. Since then, i still have mild ovulation pain but not as bad, and with no bleeding. I went in for an ultrasound...this was in September of last year...all completely normal! Now, today, I decided to go for a jog (first intentional exercise ive had in a long time!) and didn't even think about the possibility of bleeding...well, about 3 hours after my run I noticed a small amount of brown spotting. The next time I went to the bathroom it was a little more and red. I can't believe it. I do believe i am somewhere around ovulation now as well. Its very frustrating, but at least I know (with having the drs appointments, hormone testing and ultrasound) that it isn't being caused by something life threatening. My plan now, is to just ease into jogging/walking and see if that helps. I've got to get some exercise...so I guess this is just how it will have to be! I'll bring it up again at my next gyno appt. and see what they say then. I will not worry though. I have done all that i can, and am trusting the Lord for my health. I would recommend anyone who is having trouble with spotting in relation to exercise to get it checked out just to be safe...but don't panic. It seems that this is more common than most of us probably thought..and in the vast majority of cases it seems not to be serious. Let's be thankful for that.

I'm a 40 mile a week runner and ever since I got off the pill 2 years ago I've been getting cramps in the middle of my runs- I have to sit down for 10 minutes, and when the cramping stops I'm good to go and it doesn't happen again (that's actually the weird part for me!). Few hours after the run I (not always) get spotting or light bleeding.
I have to emphasize this only happens in the first half of my cycle- from cycle day 7/8 approximately until I ovulate (usually cycle day 13-14-15), and then it doesn't happen again until the next cycle.
I'm 31- my hormones are normal, my smears are normal, my ultrasound is normal. I ovulate every month (I'm charting my basal temperature) and my cycles are very regular (27 days).
My gynecologist said that it's probably the natural hormone cycle combined with strenuous workout- apparently estrogen rises in the first part of the cycle and then has a sudden drop couple of days before ovulation (when luteinizing hormone surges) , and those fluctuations make uterus lining 'weaker' and more susceptible to outside influence (workout in this case).

I hope I helped someone, but nonetheless you should visit your doctor or at least mention it on your annual gyno check up.

I'm on my 30's , and having the same thing you all girls have had, I haven't visited any doctor, I used to play soccer, just for fun, and started bleeding, it really worried me, but then after I stopped playing, the bleeding stopped as well. I started to work out, Tae Bo to be exact, three weeks since then and, just today early in the morning I found myself bleeding. not pregnat, (cause I have no sex :( , may be is hormonal). Thanks girls for your posts, It really helps to know that I'm not the only one.

This just started happening to me, too! I also just started riding long distances on my bike. Every day that I've done more than 20 miles, I've come home to find brown or pink spotting. I'm also right in the middle of my cycle now, so maybe it's connected to ovulation. I know spotting during ovulation is common, but it's never happened to me before. I am 23-years-old and probably not pregnant (uhhh...guess I should check that). I made an appointment today to see my gyn, but sounds like most people haven't had much luck at the doctor's...

I have had this "problem" since 2010 and the first time it happened to me, I was extremely worried and went to see my doctor who then referred me to a gynaecologist. To make matters worse, I was also sent for an ultrasound where the technician scared me into thinking how serious my "problem" could be, and she said (frightening me even more) especially when I hadn't had a pap smear since 2000. To cut a long story short, they found a fibroid at the opening of my uterus (whatever that means - I am just so ignorant about my own body and these medical things). As they thought this was what was causing the bleeding, I was advised to go for surgery to remove my fibroid - which I refused. My mother, who has several large fibroids has chosen not to remove them and she is 70 and still alive and well today, and she said it wasn't necessary to remove mine. I am 44, had two abortions, have very regular (like clockwork) periods all my life, have no kids, not been on birth control since briefly (6 months on the pill) in 1989.

The worst thing about my "problem" was that I stopped exercising - thinking this was making matters worse etc.

Well, ladies...let me tell you this:

The women (angels) here who have pointed out that this happens to them at the time of ovulation really need to be awarded medals! This has really shed light on my "problem". You see, I recently started going back to exercising regularly at the gym 2 months ago. And lo and behold, I started bleeding after some time again. I started worrying myself sick again - literally. But I didn't want to go back to the doctor or gynae and be told I need surgery. Well, I quickly turned to Google for some answers :) and after I read all these messages, I decided to stop worrying as one Guest suggested. Thank you very much to this Guest who posted this message to everyone to stop worrying and enjoy life. It is the most positive and helpful message of all. But thanks to all the ladies who have posted here as you have all helped to highlight an obviously common issue which frightens so many of us.

"I have had this for years exercise regulary, have been told that its just my body had scans etc, as we can all see its not rare. Everyone stop worrying and enjoy your life l where a panty liner and then dont have to worry. Hope this helps l'm also in my 30's."

So after reading this, I just continued to exercise and I usually wear a panty liner all the time anyway so it was no big change to my life. This post has really helped me so much to take my mind off this issue. I also read another post about Days 13, 14 and 15 of the cycle and counted my days....

It has now been 2 months since I found these posts/messages, and I really wanted to post my message here to everyone that this really is nothing to worry about. I am spotting on Day 15 of my cycle just like clockwork. This is after exercise and it doesn't make any difference what type of exercise or how intense it is.

So for anyone who reads this after encountering the same "problem", do count your days (starting from the first day of your last period). If you are bleeding during ovulation, then you really have nothing to worry about. If it is NOT during ovulation, then you should see your doctor or gynae about it. Most of all, don't worry yourself sick. The mind is extremely powerful and you could end up making yourself sick like what happened to me... just from concentrating on thinking that there is something wrong with you - when there isn't! It took me a long time (many months) in 2010 to be "well" again. I stopped exercising because I thought and felt something was seriously wrong with me. There wasn't! I put on so much weight from not exercising and feeling so depressed about my "problem". It was such a waste of all that time in my life.

Thanks to this forum and the guest who told everyone to stop worrying, I am now exercising regularly without fear of this issue. I feel great, and most of all, healthy - coz I AM!! :)
