Hi. I am the mom of a 10 year old boy. When he was getting out of the bath today, I noticed that his testicles were very differently sized. His left testicle is probably 4 or 5 times the size of his right. I know there should some size difference, but am concerned. Is this something that I need to have examined?
Thanks for your help,
N. B.

Well, it is normal for the left testicle to be a bit bigger and hang lower due to the different anatomical structure on the left side but being 4-5 x bigger is quite a difference and I do believe that you should have this checked by a pediatrician.
Testicular tumors usually form in men aged 19-40, so the chances of a tumor are small. However, he could have developed a hydrocele, a fluid accumulation in the scrotum beside the testicle. Hydroceles are not harmful and they could be drained by doctors. They are only a nuisance. They form when there’s defect or irritation in the tunica vaginalis of the scrotum.
Hydrocele are also not so common among children. They can be congenital and show up in children aged 1-2 or show up later in life at the age of 40.

Sorry to reply so long after this was posted, but this is to anyone who looks at thi late like I did. What the boy most likely had is something called varicocele. Varicocele is an abnormal enlargement of the veins in the scrotum. To get more info on varicocele, go to www.wikipedia.org and search for it. Varicocele isnt a dangerous thing, however it can become painful and cause atrophy (shrinkage of the testicles). If you believe you have varicocele, you should see your doctor.

Or what you may have observed might have only been one testicle descended, monorchidism. This is treatable if caught early enough. But people are right when they say better safe than sorry, so see a doctor if problems persist :-)

I would not get worried. My left testicle is approx 5 times bigger and it has nor caused me any problems to date and I am 45. To be honest, I have found it to be an advantage!

ihave this same problem, but different, the left testical is pretty small. and the right testical is either big or average sized, I don't know what average sized is. but I'm 13, i'll be 14 in march 2016. I feel NO pain atall, but I just figured it was a tumor of some sort. give me suggestions, but make it sincere because my mom wount take this stuff sieriously.
