Hi:
I don't believe that gastric surgeries are meant to leave you sterile. Did your doctor suggest this as a possibility? He knows your medical history. Is there some reason that this might be a concern for you personally? If there isn't any historical reason for the question, you should get a second opinion for sure. You should also do your homework before you have your procedure done. Consult with teaching hospitals and specialists in that area. That would be medical professionals who are very familiar with the procedure. Don't go forward without such an important question on the table. This is an interesting question. Please get back to us when you find your answers. We'd like to know how you're doing.

Most surgeons indicate that pregnancy with the sleeve is just fine. There are no issues that can arise, other than that of normal pregnancy issues. Everyone wants you to wait until you get to goal and have been there a while though. I think that's true of all the surgeries. I mean, you may want to wait until you are at or near your goal before getting pregnant, right? That would be me, but of course, everyone is different. As with all surgeries there are risks and for this one in particular, there is a lack of published data for long-term weight loss results. Also, this surgery, to the best of my knowledge, is not reversible and therefore if there are complications with pregnancy, there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it. Check with your doctor and make sure all questions are answered before committing to surgery. Best of luck to you!
