weight gain and tubal ligation!

I was always the "skinny minnie" in our family with my average weight being 130-135 lbs. 4 children and always went back to my pre-pregnancy weight after them. After the 4th child, I had a tubal done and within baby #4's first year I gained 50 lbs. It was horrific because I was never that big before. I hadn't seen one friend for about a year and she came to visit me and was shocked to the point where she shouted out "OMG! You're fat!". It was hurtful, but I understood her shock. The most I could ever lose was maybe 25 lbs, but nothing more. I had a hysterectomy in 2010 and getting heavier now. It's only just recently have I realized that there is a probable connection of the weight gain to my surgeries. My mother and sister also gained tremendous weight when they did their tubals too... I honestly feel like this side effect should be pushed up to the top of the list when any mother is considering this option, just so she knows what she could be getting herself into. Screw the docs - they won't tell you the truth even if they knew it. I'm now trying to figure out what it is we lost when we did the surgery and if there are any natural remedies to help this.

I have 3 kids I was 18 when I had my first daughter 19 when I had my second daughter And 23 when I had my son I didn't want to have no more kids and I wasn't good with pills so I thought about getting tl I read all the paperwork about it so I thought it was fine and didn't read anything about weight gain im 49 I was 95 pounds after I had all 3 of my kids now I'm 120 and I can't lose any of the weight. I got belly pouch. Just like u all do I had a flat belly and I'm never going to get that back because of that doctor I am so mad I was lied to my periods are so heavy and horrible I wish I can sue that doctor if I knew that was going to happen I wouldn't never got this done I would have considered something else so for the rest of my life I have to walk round with that Belly pouch. That's bs I'm mad and depressed every time I look in the mirror and see that round. belly pouch I'm so mad....

Yes I noticed a significant gain in weight about 10-12 months after I had the procedure done.

Hi I came here because I sort of have thw same problem. I got my tubes tied with filshie clamps, I hate I chose this option now because I have been having nothing but issues. This is year two and my stomach is still puggy, and I have gain 40lbs that I cant get rid of. Just like you I dont hardly eat and now I weigh 200lbs, although they say I do not look like it. I have been back to my surgeon 3 times with no conclusion, he only puts it off. It is very annoying because I exercise and nothing happens. Thinking bout getting my tubes untied.

Hello I had my tubes cut and burnt april 2014. I have no symptoms other that 20lb weight gain around my belly and thighs mostly..my pants are tight on the waist but I refuse to buy bigger size and give in.. I eat healthy, exercise and sleep well. I am glad to see its not all in my head. I am hoping that increasing my exercise well help since reversal is not an option for me. I wish I would of read these posts prior to my surgery I would of prefered the pill for a lifetime to weight gain. :0(

Thanks... all of this is scaring me. My mom said I'm going to be fat now because of it and that's what happened to her it's 4/20 I got it done on 4/17 and I'm still in pain then again my 4yr old headbutted my stomach. I'm roughly 155lbs and I'm fine with my weight. I didn't lose all my baby fat yet but haven't decided if I wanted to. But I just don't want to gain a ridiculous amount of weight

I had my tubes tied 13 months ago. I started gaining weight rapidly. At first I thought it was just the bloating not going away but then I realized that it was weight. I gained 50lbs in 4 months. I excersise almost daily, drink water everyday and eat healthy. Having my tubes tied has jump started me into perimenopause. I have gone through depression over this. I will continue to excersise and eat right but it does get discouraging when the weight doesnt leave. I wish I could go back, I would not have done it. I was done having kids and was tired of being on the pill, the kicker is due to my hormones and weight gain guess what, I am back on the pill. All for nothing.

I gained over 30 pounds after my tubal ligation. I eat well and run from 3 to 4 miles a day instead of losing weight I keep on gaining. Before I had my two kids my weight was 110 to 115 after my first child I was between 120-125. Going to 3 years after my second child I'm close to 160.
In my opinion don't do it if you worry about gaining weight, because it happened to me and wish I can take it back.

Hello! I did have a tubal ligation done and also go to a Naturopathic doctor. If you dont mind me asking, what supplements did he put you on? I would like to know so I can also discuss these with my doctor. I have gained considerable amount of weight and cannot get it off. Thankyou!

I gained 40lbs after tubal ligation and i was always skinny weighing in at 122lbs. Even before my pregnancy i was able to lose weight now its sickening! ! I have such low self esteem

Same here! I got a tubal ligation from a medical error (nurse might have mixed my file up with another patient who requested it), and I am putting on weight on my stomach, even though I exercise, eat healthy, and never had a weight issue before. If you look at pets, they also tend to put on weight once they have been sterilized, and their fur looses its luster. I need to do some more research into this.

yes I started gaining weight about 4 months after mine it was like someone had pumped me up with a pump, it looked wrong I was a size 12 English. I have never been able to get rid of the stomach, even though I have tried. worse decision.

totally agree i was able to lose weight before the tubal and after tubal i put on 20 lbs and haven't been able to lose any of it ! and on top of that i have lots of pain in that area when it's cold out and lots of bloating even when it's not time for period .

I had a TL DEC 9th 2009 and I never gain any weight.I have 3 kids and still very skinny and I am 110 .
