I think I have the same problem. If I am going for a walk and a tree branch is at face level I freak out and shut my eyes really tight. Also I phisicslly not put eye makeup on. My hands begin to shake and I feel as if I about to stab my eye out. I watched this movie once and the child got his eyes locked out by two pointy things I believe that's where the phobia started. I don't have glasses but since the recent replies I may start. Thanks everyone, I am not alone

Hello, I have experienced the fear of anything pointed from a young child. It continues to this day. I have told people at work, bad idea for me. I can't read books because of the corners of the page. I'm sure it's neurological as I get migraines. I just don't know. Also it drives other friends mad. If a draw is left open and I can the points I have to close it. I wish someone could take it away. Sorry I don't any answers.

I'm surprised there it's not a name for this. I have the same problem although it is triggered when things are close, or at least seems close, to my face. I no longer have with a night stand next to my bed as it makes me extremely anxious. The worst, however, (I apologize for bringing this up as I don't want to make things worse for others) is when I'm walking down aisles with hooks for hanging merchandise. It makes my temples pound and my eyes literally hurt. I get dizzy and honestly I have a fear that due to my symptoms that I might actually fall and hurt myself. This is a real problem and I wish I could help everyone solve it but I'm searching for answers myself.

I just got this sensation again while in my house, glasses are heading. When it happens, for me it's the air that bothers them and makes me think everything is going to poke my eye, no matter how far from my face

This happens to me and was also onset, I ran through the woods as a child and can barely approach branches now. One thing I have noticed is if I'm hungry it's worse, not sure why. I cover my eyes with my hand and picture open spaces like the ocean. It might be embarrassing but it helps me.

So what I experience is only kind of similar, but I just google searched after feeling it and this was the most relevant post I could find.
It's really weird. Every time I'm holding something sharp or near something sharp, I feel really scares that I'm going to stab myself in the eye with it :| sharp knives, security tags at work etc., it is really strange and really worries me :( am I just messed up? I get scared one day I might just do it compulsively and there'll be no going back.
I've read some of you say about glasses. I wear both glasses and contact lenses about the same amount of time for each, and now I'm wearing my contact lenses and have just experienced this feeling walking past a fillet knife that was laying on the side. I can't really remember whether I only experience it with my lenses in or not, I'll have to start noticing that.

It COULD also be Visual Looming Syndrome https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_looming_syndrome

I'm wondering if anyone has seen an experienced Homeopath for this condition, or possibly cranial sacral therapy or EFT, emotional freedom technique.

ITS NOT JUST ME!? That brings me comfort at least, in a messed up way. Even having my hands close to my eyes is bad! I've had glasses since fourth grade and I used to wear contacts but can't anymore after I got an ulcer on my eye four years ago (I could technically because it is healed and fine but putting my finger in my eye is nearly impossible because of this - fear of poking my eye out) I really want to get laser eye surgery but don't you have to be awake for that? I think I'd piss myself. Also headlights are so bad coming at me I feel like I'm going to die especially when they are bright as the damn sun. Life is really difficult these days.

Some of you are confusing these two things.
Aichmophobia is the fear of sharp things. Also known as (belonephobia or enetophobia)

Visual Looming Syndrome is having pain or discomfort when looking at sharp things.

I've dealt with Visual Looming Syndrome for my whole life. I have to close my eyes when someone next to me has a pointy pencil in their hand because I feel like it's about to poke me in the eyeball (even though it's obviously not). This happens to me whenever I'm near anything sharp or pointy. I just cannot stand the feeling. My eyes start hurting and I have to move myself away from the situation or close my eyes.. Making others stare at me in confusion. Glad I'm not alone.
