That's what I am thinking that it might be. Perhaps it's a bit of misfiring on the part of neurons in the brain that were intended to invoke a certain reaction?

To me the experience is the opposite of anxiety.

Ah this is so cool! I've always felt this sensation but I didn't give it much thought before.
I'm a 16-year old American girl who's felt this as long as I can remember.
Triggers for me:
-Someone playing with my hair
-Someone drawing on my back (really rough, strong massages aren't the same... lighter touching, like with a fingernail, is better)
-Watching someone use/handle/study something that's mine (like an object... sort of like the object became an extension of my body)
-When certain people talk- the most I've ever felt it while listening to someone was this guy who was kind of on the borderline for having special needs... his voice was kind of monotone and hypnotic for me. He seemed to use special care to say everything he said. He explained some sort of art project to me every time we talked but I could never pay attention to what he was saying haha

The feeling to me is like what a lot of people said... tingling and sort of a "floating" sensation around my head/neck/sinus region. I also have a weird muscle spasm about 5 times a day or so (haha I know it sounds weird) but I think right before, I get this feeling for just a fraction of a second. Nothing like when it's "trigger-induced" haha.
Oh and the reference to creeping people out earlier ("You got an orgasmic feeling from watching me admire your artwork!?!") was hilarious. I laughed out loud.

For people who are trying to find a common thread between everyone... I'm pretty artistic (mentioned earlier) and I think I'm pretty perceptive to others' emotions. huh. Interesting.

haha I think someone should take one for the team and go see a doctor about this. Ah I'm dying to find out more!

Hello! So glad to have found others with this condition/gift. Just wondering: are any of you synaesthetes? Do you 'see' colours when listening to music? I am, and I wonder whether there's a connection. I'm also a Christian, if that helps.

I'm a 30-year-old man from Leamington Spa, England, by the way.

I can't believe it, I thought I was crazy! So many more people can do it too. Has anyone consulted their doctor with the matter? I want a name so badly!

After seeing an article in this morning's New York Times, I looked up oxytocin
in wikipedia. Its secretion may have something to do with the sensation we
feel - just a guess, though. Apparently the drug ecstasy may stimulate
oxytocin activity, too, and breast-feeding does the same.

Can anyone who has breast-fed her baby comment on whether or
not that sensation is similar to what we have been describing in
this forum?

I have always wondered what these sensations were. I have tried to describe them to others, but no one seems to understand what I am talking about. I wonder what we all have in common that makes us experience this feeling? I am a 25 year old American female and I have had these all my life. The triggers are unexpected and sometimes I can re-create the feeling if I think about what triggered it. I use this to help me relax or fall asleep at night.

i experienced this once again tonight and finally decided to look into this..took lots of searching, but relieved to find people that know what i'm talking about! i've experienced this since i was a child, i now am 26 years old. I've noticed it happens most for me when someone is giving me undivided attention, speaking softly, complimenting me, and someone playing with my hair.
to those who are trying to find commen thread- i do have a bit of anxiety, but that only started a few yrs ago.. i'm not quiet and shy, not an artist, but am very perceptive to other people's emotions...

Count me in as someone else who experiences this sensation. It's been happening to me as long as I can remember. I'm a 32 Male living in Edmonton. I'd love to find out if this condition is known in the medical community. I never really think about it until it starts happening and when it does, I don't want it to stop! For years now I've already called it my 'fuzzy head'. I've tried to explain it to friends but they just laugh at me.

Anyway I've added this page to my bookmarks and will be reading it to see what else people write about it.

I'm also one of the many who have felt this sensation.

I used to get it a lot as a kid in art class when I would see others painting or drawing. And when I used to watch drawing or painting shows on TV. Another place I ALWAYS get this sensation is when I'm at the barber. Either when he is using the sicsors to cut my hair or the trimmer, both trigger it, although the trimmer seems to be a stronger sensation then the sisscors. There have also been a great many times that it has happened during other scenarios and one thing recently that has been triggering it is at my job when people are writing out checks. The longer and slower they are with the check the more intense it seems to be.

Synaesthetes? Kind of but not really. If I'm sober I usually just get a vague feeling that "this song is blue" or "that album is green/brown". If I have smoked a little I experience incredibly strong synaesthesia: you know those visualisations on winamp? Like that but a million times more detailed. I don't use any drugs besides an occasional joint (once every two months or so). Btw for some reason cannabis has a much stronger effect on me than it does on anyone I know maybe the tingling sensation has something to do with that? Anyways as mr.mackey said: drugs are bad mmkay? Not even once kids.

I'm an atheist so I don't think being religious has much to do with it.

Higher IQ? Emotionally more aware? I really don't know... As flattering as both of those are I really don't know... I've always done well in school and like to think I'm more in touch with my emotions than average joe (you know, crying while watching movies and other manly stuff like that :D) but those sound too good to be true you know? Maybe it could be low IQ? Being social sometimes feels like the greates burden there is, maybe it could be that? Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Anyways real glad to find out there are more of us out there :D

Oh yeah almost forgot, 20 years old caucasian male.

I've had this feeling also, actually it's happening right now. What turned it on, was a actually a phone call from a perfect stranger, actually a magazine sales rep. I would be described as introverted, very well connected to my environment (in touch with emotions of others, being able to "read" others etc). I'm very empathetic, easily overcome by emotions, and also have been diagnosed as having manic depression. I currently take SSRI (Selective-Seratonin-Reuptake-Inhibitor) for my depression. I've had this since feeling since I was a child. Oddly enough one of the first times I remember it happening was with that painter on PBS. Slow, soft voices, and a lot of concentration by other seem to set it off. I wonder if we have a unique brain chemistry that allows this feeling to happen? Dopamin, norepinephrine, which help in transmission of nerve impulses. I can state what a burden this has been my entire life, with feeling I was broken, or damaged. I'm a 27 yr old, male from Texas.

I have never been able to find a term for this condition, but I would greatly like to. This was the only site I could find that described a positive tingling feeling in the head. My triggers are much the same as all the others, and I even have a special tape that I made years ago which works every time I watch it. The only problem is that the effects fade after many repeated viewings.

One thing that triggered this for me in the past was acupressure. I'm not certain if it was the acupressure itself or if it was just the actions of it, though (like a placebo effect). Doing the tapping and listening to a calm voice may have been the trigger, as many have said.

Some info about myself:
28 M, Caucasian
I had a history of depression/anxiety (which runs in the family)
Sometimes I feel like I have ADD, at least in cases that my attention is often wandering and it is hard for me to focus on certain tasks
I am prone to frequent headaches, which sometimes the tingling can cure
I am artistic and creative, and I work in such a field
I am not religious
I do not have any type of synesthesia that I'm aware of

I am interested in finding out more about it because I feel it may have minor healing properties, and I would love to learn to control it more (say, without needing external stimulus like a video).

I also wonder if this is more common than many people here think. It's possible other people you know have had it, but they don't understand your description, or they just aren't as aware of it. Then again, maybe it's only possible for them to have it, yet they've never had the appropriate stimuli. It may be as simple as just a goosebumps reaction on your head.
