I had one single depo jab in April 05 and didn't have anymore as it stopped my periods and caused me to be depressed. My periods returned in June 06 and I have just recently returned to the pill in the last month, this has caused my period to last over 2 weeks and it still hasn't stopped now. The doctor told me that it was because the depo hasn't worn off yet, how long is it going to take. I am frightened that I am now infertile as I have had unprotected sex regularly for the last two years and only switched to the pill on the doctors advice. When will I be me again?
i am 25, i was on the depo for 2 years. i had my last depo shot on 06 sept 2006, i had a very heavy period in january 2007, then nothing till today which is 08 may 2007, i am desperate for a baby and am now trying conceive, so i bought some agnus castus tablets which are known to induce periods and regulate irregular periods, i started taking these 4 days ago and now the period is here, i also got some clomid tablets online, which will induce and increase ovulation time, and i am to start taking this on day 3 of my period. it is also a good idea to detox your body as this helps flush out the Depo provera a lot quicker. i found out all this information from health websites and forums, i then went to my gp, who was not very happy about me taking matters into my own hands, but gave me all the correct information and tested my hormone levels to make sure eveything was ok, he advised me to start taking vitamin and folic acid supplements also. the reason i took matters into my own hands is because i have been trying to conceive unsuccessfully for six months. at the meer age of 25 and also when you have not been trying to conceive for longer than a year, doctors do not take you seriously. hope this helps... goodluck!!!!(and please do not do this without consulting your gp)
This site is a God send! I came of the Depo injection in March, after being on it for 5 years. For the past few weeks I’ve had incredibly sore breasts/nipples and they’ve almost doubled in size (much to the delight of my fiancé!). I only have to look at food to gain weight and as a consequence have had to cut my calorie intake almost by half. Not had many problems with mood swings but have the occasional teary moment. Can’t wait for my periods to return (if ever) and for my body to return to normal. As a contraceptive Depo suited me fine but, I am concerned about the long-term damage I’ve done to my body and what other side-effects await me over the next few months… I’ll keep you posted!
I posted a mesage on this site awhile ago regarding my symptoms. I had been on depo for 13 years and I am 33 years old. I bled for about three months straight and I noticed that the bones in my legs, back and feet have started "popping" with every step. I have not gone to the GYN yet as my I have switched professions and I do not have insurance at this time. I do believe that I have some sort of osteoarthritis or osteoporosis at this point as this has never happened to me before. My question is why did these symptoms only come on after I stopped getting the shot? Maybe the hormones trying to return back to normal? As soon as I can get to the GYN I will definitely have a list of questions prepared.
As far as the bleeding, it was not a NORMAL PERIOD!! I had SEVERE blood clots. I seriously could have gone into any ER and would have been admitted. I was at my wits end, but then I found a juice that is full of antioxidants and whatnot, and two days after drinking that my period finally went off. That was about three weeks ago. I am curious as to when my period returns if it will be normal or not. I will repost when that happens.

I have been on depo forever...8-9 yrs maybe. Anyway, when I went off of depo the first time to have a child, it took me approimately 10 mos to get pregnant. My last shot was in November and I was pregnant in September the following year. I am getting off depo again to have another child (my last shot was in Feb 2007). I now feel nauseated all the time and my sex drive increased. (who knew?). Anyway, my point is that everyone if different and every expreience is different, but don't lose hope, just be patient.
I had my last shot in Jan. 07, it's now May 27th and I've been experiencing swollen breasts with extremely sore nipples, diarrhea, cramping, irritability, :-S mood swings, fatigue, even the color and odor of my urine has changed! o.O It's like the PMS from hell!!!
I was scheduled for a shot 3 weeks ago but I decided not to get it due to the warnings of osteoporosis. I started taking the shot in 1995 before I left the hospital and stopped May 2007. I have been experiencing knee pain for the past 2 months. I am going to get a bone density test as soon as I get some extra money. So far the only side effect I have experience from not being on the shot is dull cramping. I am a bit curious about how my period will be. I hope and pray that it will be normal. I have a lawyer that is looking into my case. The Drs should have warned us earlier about the dangers of this shot. I am pissed. I am only 33 years old and should not be have knee problems. As soon as I get my bone density test I will let you all know. All of your quotes helps out alot. Thank God for this site.
My period is always 'right there' if miss my shot by a week i get it.
I understand i have the same type of pains but i haven't came off the depo yet will end on the 27th of july not even a full year and i have had many problems, and lately i have been bleeding randomly off and on so i went to the doctor and went on the pill and it stopped me from bleeding but i have pains from my breast with tenderness to Cramps in my chest and breasts to my lower back and the top of my back and pains across my upper tummy to my lower tummy and pains in my peliv area like pushing down pain, and feeling dizzy, and after sex i started bleeding again but then stopped the next morning, i havent any std had tests shouldnt be pregnant but this is what it makes you feel like your pregnant and your body doesn't like it, i have been pregnant twice b4 and i dont think i am again for being on the depo and it has yet to end and being on the pill i dont really know whats going on but i know how you are feeling
I am pissed after reading all these postings regarding depo and the effects woman have after getting off of the shot. I to have gotten off the depo recently. My last shot was Jan 07. It is now Jun 07 and I haven't had anything except for sore boobs that feel like they are going to explode at any minute. I also feel very nauseous. Why don't the doc's tell the patients that they will experience fake pregnancy symptoms. I have wasted so much money on pregnancy tests and my poor husband keeps getting excited only to be let down. From the research that I have done, I think alot of woman should not expect to conceive until at least 6 -18 months after their last shot. So if you are on a timetable, plan accordingly.
I had been on depo for about 6-7 years and I decided to come off it after my partner had a vasectomy (neither of us want children). I had my last injection three months ago. Still no bleeding, but Im getting lots of stomach cramps, sore neck, aching at the backs of my knees - all the things I used to get with my period.
I had no interest in sex, I am moody, my boobies absolutely ache, and I have a general feeling of impending doom all the time! Ive also been having an extra heartbeat which I saw the cardiologist about and was told it was nothing to worry about...I struggle to force myself out of bed in the morning and find it hard to focus at work.
Feel this will never end! Im only 35 and really think at my age I should be feeling a lot better than this!

I encourage EVERYONE on this site to read IT"S MY OVARIES, STUPID! by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet to understand your hormones and what they might be doing to your body. Progestin (the synthetic form of progesterone that are body makes naturally) can cause all sorts of problems for women. The problems are closely linked with your ESTROGEN though. The progestin supresses estrogen and deposits itself in breasts, thus the tenderness and cancer. With less estrogen you are left with headaches fatigue, heart palpitations, dry skin, no sex drive, greater chance of osteoperosis, heart disease and bad cholesterol. I was on a pill with a high progestin content and it has done the same thing to me. I'm going to try going on natural estrogen to see if it can boost my system back to normal. Most doctors don't tell you because the medical field is dominated by men who dismiss women as neurotic and fail to research these issues. Your doctor probably didn't know it would happen and doesn't know how to fix it. That's why I'm being proactive about it. I had a find a new doctor who actually cared and listened before I could even get my hormones tested! Be carefull and research everything for yourself.
i have none been off for 5 months. it is the best thing i have ever decided to do. i am starting to feel better. dr put me on bcp to add estrogen back in my body. glad to find others out there that understand
I am only 19 and was on depo for about 3-4 years. I went off it because of all the bad reviews about it, hoping i havent screwed up my body too much yet.. I have been off it for about 2 months and got a very light period last week and am now on the pill. I continue to bleed every now and then but only when i go to the bathroom which is joined by a sharp pain.. i also have pains in my legs and arms and hands.. the sharp pain and bleeding i am thinking is from coming off the needle and taking the pill now, maybe the combination of the two if the depo is still in my system? I have no idea but I definately think doctors need to get more informed on this drug before it ruins anyone else..
