Five days ago, my father complained about pain in a scrotum region. He was very stubborn and he didn’t won’t to go to the hospital because he thought that the pain will pass away by it self. But pain only grew stronger and stronger and he got strong fever. Finally, on a forth day he contacted his urologist sand went to be examined. Doctor said that his condition was very urgent because his right epididymis was swollen and painful. I am very frightened right now because I don’t now how dangerous this really is plus, I don’t now what is epididymis is at all.

I don’t know much also about this situation but my friend had a similar condition last year and I read some articles about it. I will tell you what I know – maybe I would help.
Epididymis is long tube coiled against the testes where the sperm are stored and mature. Inflammation of epididymis is called epididymitis. It can be very serious condition because it can progress to acute scrotum. This condition can be caused by bladder infection, prostate infection, some sexually transmitted disease or mechanical torsion. Whatever is the reason of epididymis inflammation doctors will probably first seek for cause to remove it first and then your father will be treated with antibiotics, if the cause is infection, or he will be operated, if the cause is mechanical torsion.
