Painful swollen hands and feet with numbing and tingling

Hi.

Painful, swollen hands and feet accompanied by numbness and tingling can be caused by various conditions, and pinpointing the most common cause can be challenging because it depends on several factors, including underlying health conditions, lifestyle, and even environmental factors. However, one of the frequent causes of these symptoms is peripheral neuropathy combined with edema.

Peripheral neuropathy refers to the damage or dysfunction of the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. This can lead to pain, numbness, and tingling in the extremities, including the hands and feet. The causes of peripheral neuropathy are diverse, ranging from diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, alcohol abuse, to systemic illnesses.

Edema, or the accumulation of fluid in body tissues, often manifests as swelling in the extremities. It can result from a variety of conditions, including heart failure, kidney disease, venous insufficiency, or as a side effect of certain medications.

When these conditions occur simultaneously, they can produce the combination of swelling, pain, and tingling sensations in the hands and feet. It's important to note that this is just one possibility, and there are numerous other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms, such as rheumatoid arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or lymphatic obstruction.

Have you been to the doctor in the meantime?
