Hello, folks. My mother has been recently diagnosed SLE. I know that this condition is really serious one. However, I would like to know what the prognosis for SLE is in general. What can we expect? I hope that something can be done with regular treatment. I would be very grateful for all your replies. Bye!
Hello. You are right when you say that SLE is a serious disease. However, it can be controlled with a proper treatment. Remissions and relapses are common. On the other hand, 5-year survival is 97%. 10-year survival is about 90%. Prognosis also depends on which organs are affected by inflammation. Serious complications usually do not affect most of the patients. Your mother should just visit her doctor regularly. I hope I’ve helped. Good luck!
raffaello793 gave a good answer. I would add too it. As my doctor said, you will live until a simi truck hits you when you walk out into the street, before the lupus can take your life. However, then you can die tomorrow with lupus.-------- that is why he and I have the motto "best way to live a long life is to have an illness and take care of it"
Follow doctor orders, do what they say, take your meds, take care of yourself.......... doesn't mean there are not rocky roads, but you can life life.
I work 40 hours a week now! my medication has given me a new lease on life (methotrexate), I have had lupus for 24 years.
