My parents took me to see a movie about the life of Christ which included the crucifixion when I was a little kid in the '40s. "wonderful religious movie". I had nightmares for months/years after that. When they were finally subsiding along came Sampson and Delilah another wonderful religious film. More nightmares for months/years.

my mum used to force us to watch the 1966 film "The Bible: In the beginning..." which went for 3 hours!! AKA a LONG time when you're a child. She isn't even the slightest bit religious, just thought it was a classic haha
