Hello, I have a malign tumor of thyroid gland. I was told that it is a malign cancer, that spread locally, just recently, at my last examination. Firs, I will have to be treated with radiotherapy, so that the cancer tissue would reduce, so that the operation would be done easier. Since the radiotherapy could make the patient very sick (nausea and vomiting), I was recommended to use Palonosetron, so I would like to know whether Palonosetron is better than other 5-HT3 antagonists?
Palonosetron, tropisetron, ondansetron are antagonists of 5-HT3 receptors, which means they block serotonin receptors and thus blocking the vomiting mechanism. All of these three meds differ from each other in pharmaceutical kinetic characteristics but their effecs are very similar. My opinion is that Palonosetron is not better, but very similar to ther meds of his type.
