Hi:
I have had the same problem. Recurrent yeast infections that typically come on during my menstrual cycle (because of the change in hormone levels) and after sex with my husband. Semen is very basic (opposite of acidic) and as such it can change the pH of the vagina. I have tried everything homeopathic (garlic, probiotics, apple cider vinegar, etc) and also have worked my way through all the prescriptions creams and pills (Diflucan, monistat, terconazole, etc) up to the highest dose and still no cure.
Finally my body was so resistant to all medications that I ended up getting a yeast infection for 3 months straight without a day of relief! Needless to say I was going nuts. I read on WebMD on how to make your own boric acid capsules and they are a miracle! Boric acid is available without a prescription, but not many places carry it. It is used to treat yeast infections because it has the exact same pH as a healthy vagina. The best bet would be to check at the old-time locally owned pharmacies (not Walgreens, Cub Foods, etc). I got a huge jar of powder that could make like 500 capsules or something and it was only $4.99. You can also buy it online from a health store. The capsules strangely were not at the old-time pharmacy but regular pharmacies and health food stores will carry the "00" size gelatin capsules. You just fill the capsule up full and it is the right dose. I use an old applicator I saved from a Rx cream to insert the capsule easily and at the right depth, etc. There is some watery discharge the next day for a couple hours. Sometimes I use an organic cotton tampon in the morning for just a couple hours to help with the mess. I've read of people soaking their tampons in boric acid solution and then inserting but luckily the capsules alone have been working for me.
I'm still on my initial 2 week course but there was significant relief from the symptoms after only two suppositories. After the initial 2 weeks I will continue with the suppositories 2x a week for 3 months to help clear up this chronic condition. Also, if you are like me and get the infections around your menstrual cycle I've read that inserting one capsule nightly during your cycle can help and I will be doing that for 6 more months. Beyond that I've been trying to eat very healthy with minimum of sugar, sleep commando for ventilation (no underwear), and taking a probiotic daily. My husband and I wash before and after sex and while that is a buzzkill having no sex is an even bigger one.
I also just read a report from a doctor that yeast can live on your underwear through the wash cycle (even on hot water). The only way to kill yeast is to boil it, soak in bleach for 24 hours, or iron with a hot steamy clothes iron. So yes, I will be ironing my underwear for a few months until I'm sure I've kicked this systemic infection. I may have unwillingly been transmitting the same infection back to myself! At the onset of this latest infection my doctor treated my husband with some terconazole cream. He had a mild red rash around the groin area (no itching, lucky duck) and it may have been what they call "jock itch" which is a type of fungus. Guys can get hot and sweaty down there creating a prime environment for yeast growth so make sure to check your man for any redness and treat it right away if found. The cream cleared my husband right up which confirmed it was a fungal infection. You can also treat these rashes with an over-the-counter product without a prescription like Lamisil, etc. You can pass a fungal infection back and forth with a sexual partner so they may need to be treated even if they have no symptoms. (Straight from my doctor's mouth) Guys can have a yeast infection on their skin in the groin region but still have no symptoms besides maybe a slight redness.
After 6 months I'm going to go off the boric acid caps to see how my body responds. I know this all seems like such a pain and hassle, and it is, but having a never-ending painful infection is mentally debilitating and it really has been taking a toll on my sexual relationship with my husband. At this point I'm willing to try anything to help, and although there is a little mess in the morning with the boric acid capsules it is far easier and cleaner than the creams and other suppositories. Believe me, I've tried them all! My doctor at this point is stumped and is out of prescriptions for me to try. With so many studies by doctors out there touting the benefits of boric acid I can't believe my doctor didn't mention this to me earlier. (It's on WebMD for cripes sakes!) Frankly, I'm sick of the doctors. It's rare you get a good one, and most look down upon all homeopathic remedies, regardless of anecdotal results and actual medical studies. I don't think that 100 years of contemporary medical progress should shun 10,000 years of human experience with the medicinal qualities earth has provided.

Hello,
I have the same problem. Every time me & my boyfriend have sex I'd get an infection. The first time I treated it with regular over the counter stuff but it didn't work so I went to the dr. She thought I had something called vaginal meningitis (don't know if it's spelled right) because there was no signs of yeast. So she prescribed treatment for that. Well it didn't work and it seems like my symptoms got worse. Extreme itching and burning. So I went to my gyno office and found out I had an external yeast infection which is the equivalent to the male jock itch. I also had a bladder infection. They gave me medicine and antibiotics to cure both but when I had sex again, I started itching anf burning again. Went back to the gyno & got the same dose, but then she said to have my regular dr test me for diabetes since I kept getting yeast infections and she also referred me to a urologist for the bladder infections. But diabetes does not run in my family and something my father told me clicked because he had the same problems with a girlfriend in the past, every time they had sex she'd get a yeast infection. So I figure there has to be some type of remedy for this. That's when I stumbled upon this site. Thanks everyone for the helpful information about boric acid. I am going to try this and I will reply my results.

I'm 39 and spent my teen and adult years with cronic yeast infection -until this year. Medication does not work for me and I cant afford it. With my own research and experimentation there are three steps and a few extra tips that work for me:
1. Garlic- 1 clove, skin cut off, cut slitts into clove for extra potency, insert into vagina as far as possible, use at night or day, comes out on its own with BM, use garlic suppositories as long as you feel you need, usually three nights for me.
2. Plain Yogurt- no to little (2%) sugar content, use as cream internally and externally as often as you would like, wear panty liners if needed.
3. Dark Green Veggies - eat as much as you can everyday, learn to enjoy by starting off small servings and working up to large salad size. I am still working on this part :-)
My life lesson tip 1. Do not eat yeast products and sugar - start by eliminating one item from your diet a day. This step is so important.
Life lesson tip 2. Use lubricant. I like KY-SILK, get over your shyness with your partner, if he cant handle what you are telling him he doesn't care about you.
Other- u could be allergic to condums, the chemical reaction from your body to his cum is possible.
Wish everyone all the best.

Hi, let me tell u a lil about what i have learned from my gyn my mom and the internet. Vaginas have a certain PH balance which should be in the middle something between 4.2 and 3.8 if can remember correctly... Just look for the exact numbers online... Sooo ur period has a Ph of 7.2 which is way over the normal PH it should be right? So when ur Ph is high you get infection such as BV aka … Bacterial Vaginosis. Ok so now semen also has a PH and although ur bf may not be cumming in u he still pre cums correc?t so what the seman does is lowers ur Ph it has a Ph of i belive 3.2 which is way below what ur vag Ph is supossed to be, and When ur vag Ph is lower then normal then u get a yeast infection. The reason seman's ph is low is because its supossed to lower the acidity of ur vag so that the it does not kill it so they can make there way to fertilize the egg. So all u have to do is get u Ph to normal if i were u go to u gyn and as her about boric acid suppositories which neutrilizes ur vag ph. Which kills yeast and infections. Google it and girls are raving about it. Hope u learned a lil :) i know this info help me understand my body

Wife and I had the same issue for the first 20 years of our marriage. A good lubrication completely resolved the issue. Have tried without to check, without produces the same old result.

I have been having the same problem you all speak of. I tried diflucan and it seemed to clear up, but as soon as we had sex again i got another yeast infection. I just found this other site that says basically these drugs often clear up the symtoms but the root problem is still there and thats why it keeps coming back. This site says the only way to cease intercourse untill entirely cured. :(

I have the same problem and is driving me crazy, I've been with my boyfriend for a year and we still always use protection
It seems that everytime we have sex I get some kind of infection, the over the counter yeast infection remedies dont work anymore so I have gone to trying different things, directly applyying yogurt us messy but very effective and calming
I have noticed that if I consume dairy and starches/sugar the infections take longer to go away, also coconut oil seems to calm the itching, I have tried the probiotics and they seem to help, I will try boric acid and see how it goes

I am about to try a candida cleanse. I have heard a great deal of good about it, but have not done this cleanse yet. In brief, the body has an overgrowth of yeast, or candida, which can lead to yeast infections. The candida thrives on sugar, so in order to rid the body of the yeast, you have to starve it of its food supply (which is probably why everyone's doctors keep saying no beer). However, from my understanding, merely cutting out beer will not help; all sugars need to be removed. This means artificial sweeteners, real sugar, sugars occurring naturally in fruit and even grains (because the large amount of carbs ultimately convert to sugar). There are a variety of candida cleanses--some allowing grains and fruits--so it may help to do some research. I am about to start one under the direction of a health coach, so hopefully it will help me. Good luck to everyone, and please let me know your thoughts on the candida cleanse.
