My grandmother had no teeth left and still said her gum itch was driving her crazy...unfortunately it might be genetic and there is no hope :(

What helps me is making a mix of apple cider vinegar, salt and water and swish it around my gums multiple times, it numbs the sensation enough for me to leave it alone and heal. Rubbing alchohol too.

Guys. I’ve been watching this thread for over a decade, still with no real answers. Today has been brutal. My itching gums have never been worse! Anyway, I've formed a group on Facebook and I’d like to join up with you all there- as we all very CLEARLY have an undiagnosed, unstudied medical condition.
Please join me on Facebook. Let’s band together and update each other there. My goal is to get us together, gather updates and stories, then find a way to demand the ADA to research this, and stop blaming it on gum disease or bad oral hygiene.
We need to be heard. Let’s band together.

I think it has to do with a blocked chakra. Good luck trying to unblock it.

This itching can be caused by microscopic parasites in the body and gums. Strange, but heard it can be true.

It's not. If you read through the comments most have said their teeth are in perfect health. My symptoms started during teething as an INFANT in 1964, long before any disease could form, and it's never stopped. I would happily trade this maddenly incessant itch for extreme pain. You can't imagine how bad it is!

Omg Omg Omg. Y’all, I have been posting on here for yearrrrrrs. I’m the one whose dentist tried Botox and a laser and I got acupuncture needles …. My gums in that one spot are just gone from ripping floss across and sticking pins and needles down to the bone.

Well out of desperation, I decided to try braces. Y’all, I am in Heaven. What I suspect mst people who get braces would describe as pain is like a freaking MASSAGE to me! And I also got a water flosser (see link below) that warned to start at low pressure , so of course I cranked it up to the highest possible pressure and it’s like a pressure washer! I suppose most people would not find that worth a billion dollars, but for those of you with this nightmare condition, you can relate.

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!!!! I’m only on day one and I’m already so happy. Will let you know how it goes over time.

The localized itch in all of us is related to the innervation of the periodontal tissue itself connected with nerves such as the anterior superior alveolar nerve, itself a branch of the infraorbital nerve, itself a branch of the maxillary nerve (V2), itself part of our trigeminus nerve system. There are only 2 know solutions to this problem:

i) either using medications meant for (atypical) trigeminus neuralgia (they are usually of the antiepileptic type Tegretol the brand name for Carbamazepine or Lyrica the brand name for Pregabaline or antidepressants like Amitriptyline) which all lower the sensitivity threshold of the nerves, and come all with side effects,

ii) topical application of Capsaicin (preferably within a mouth guard) that acts as it it is burning the nerves, when it is actually depleting a so-called substance P for a few weeks.

Hello!
What do you think about rhizotomy?

Rhizotomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove sensation from a painful nerve by killing nerve fibers responsible for sending pain signals to the brain. The nerve fibers can be destroyed by severing them with a surgical instrument or burning them with a chemical or electrical current. In most cases, rhizotomy provides immediate pain relief that can last up to several years until the nerve recovers and is able to transmit pain again. Rhizotomy can also be called ablation or neurotomy — all of these terms describe removal or deadening of tissue. (Information from Johns Hopkins site).

As for me tegretol is addictive and i need to increase the dose until effect reduce to zero. Lyrica also not for me because of side effect.

Sorry for my eng
