I had always thought that 200/400 runners and 400/800 runners usually ran equal 400 times. Now though, I'm convinced that sprinters run it faster and it is in fact much better to train w/ sprinters instead of distance. Last year, I was a 200/400 runner that ran a 54.8 and I consistenly ran 55.0 all year. My relay times were always at least a 54.5 and I even clocked one relay split at 53.9. This year, I'm a 400/800 runner. I've trained a LOT more this year, probably twice as much compared to last year. My 800 times and up have improved drastically, but I ran a 57 and 58 relay split. Although it's very early in the season and those times occured at a scrimmage, I feel I've gotten slower speed wise. I just don't feel as fast as last year. Do you guys think I'm just overreacting.
no, sprinter definitely run faster in general in the 400m, mostly because the sprinter that can run it can sprint most of the time, take a look at the world record holder...
