I've had SM since puberty. Was biopsied and diagnosed at 18, 29, and 35. Each derm wanted a biopsy. Was recently treated with Accutane but it did not work. It made my cyst multiply. I use to have so many of them in my armpit, groin creases, neck, torso, upper arms, and face. Even on rim of earlobes. They seem to have lessened during my IVF fertility treatment. I use to take 5 fish oil pills a day and a very good prenatal. I was a vegetarian, and kept in shape. After menopause I notice they are reappearing more so on my cheeks, ears, few on stomach never went away. 1month after Accutane I started getting boils all over my back and buttocks. I'm going to restart fishoil, zinc, and vitamin d. I've also gained weight, so will be attacking that. I'm glad I found this group. Thank you all.
Accutane, which is a medication used to treat severe acne, is not typically effective in treating Steatocystoma Multiplex. Additionally, as you have experienced, it may even worsen the condition by causing the cysts to multiply.
It's good that you are considering restarting fish oil, zinc, and vitamin D supplementation. While these supplements are not a cure for Steatocystoma Multiplex, they may help improve the overall health of your skin and may help reduce inflammation, which could potentially help manage your symptoms.
Lifestyle factors such as maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly can also help manage the condition. If you are experiencing boils or other skin problems, it's important to speak with a dermatologist to determine the best course of treatment. There may be prescription medications or procedures that can help manage the symptoms of Steatocystoma Multiplex.
