It's been a rough year. On December 5th, 2008 my appendix was removed in an emergency surgery. Less than a week later I was re-admitted to a hospital for a R. leg DVT (possibly compliments of the lack of surgical booties). My recovery was considerably rocky and my relief didn't last. In February, I began to notice an unsettling sharp pain in the same area as my appendectomy incision. I underwent extensive testing for many months and finally, after suffering with the debilitating, unexplained pain, I went under the knife again for a cholecystectomy. This took place in late August. I should probably mention that I'm a 21 (yeah, twenty-one) year old female who was in otherwise perfect health until my appendix decided to check out permanently.Following this procedure, I felt like I had before that fateful December day last year. I consider my surgeon a miracle worker.

So, I'm done with hospitals for a while right? Wrong. About three weeks ago I was rushed to the E.R. for alarming food poisoning symptoms. I was violently nauseous and my stool was remarkably bloody. I began to crash physically and spent the next ten hours awaiting the worst. According to my doctor for the evening, I had a particularly nasty U.T.I....and possibly a stomach bug. Could he be any more vague? So, I took antibiotics for a couple of days and painkillers helped. But ever since then my digestive system and I have not been on good terms. I hardly eat because I feel constantly full (early satiety) and immediately nauseous after a meal. I have a constant stomachache. My primary doctor took some blood, concerned there was something more sinister going on than IBS, and told me he'd run a Celiac Panel test, along with a couple of other tests. I immediately wrote off the possibility of Celiac Disease.

Earlier today my doctor called me and we spoke for about twenty minutes about the positive test result he'd received. According to my blood, I have Celiac Disease. o.O This is some news! I'm full of questions and more than a little anxious. I've done some online research and now that the diagnosis is out in the open things are falling into place, such as my infection leading to the discovery of my G.I. situation. Should I begin stripping wheat from my diet now, before my biopsy? I'm completely dumbfounded....and convinced that this past year was marked out to be the toughest of my life. But I made it through! If anyone has any tips on transitioning into and handling Celiac Disease, they're greatly appreciated. I'm hoping my gastroenterologist can give me some answers too.
Hi honey! Believe me you are NOT alone with being diagnosed with Celiac disease it is more and more common! Actually stores selling non gluton foods. There is a store here in my city that makes actually frozen dinners which are ALL Gluton free! It is FAR easier now then ever before to eat without Gluton, because of SO many people with the illness! My dearest friend suffered for years from symptoms like yours and low and behold last year - Celiac Disease! Which answered ALL her problems! Here is a link

Listen to the doctor, get as much information as possible and DONT buy into sites that are ALL about the negative! There are MILLIONS of people with Celiac disease and more and more companies are buying into this market! So don't despair! There's a LOT of information out there some bad but most GOOD! So remember knowledge is power!!!

Good luck and health honey! I hope this helps you feel better!
