I have to agree with the poster about hypoglycemia being the culprit. I am NO doctor by any means. However I have experienced my 3rd episode of these attacks, most recently this past Friday. My attacks seem to be spread out over years, as I have at least one every 3 years.

My attacks are usually followed by a night of drinking (heavy or not -- as I usually dont drink that heavy anyway) and the day OF my menstrual cycle. I have had Hypoglycemic attacks before that last only 2 or 3 mins or until I get my hand on some sugar. No pain, just instant weak feeling, shaking and really needing to eat something (most preferably sweet). And then all better. Now these NEW attacks are different. I have always had very painful menstrual cycles so I am no "wuss" when it comes to tolerating pain. However, these attacks are brutal and I literally feel as if I am going to die if I do allow myself to pass out. They usually last around a good 45 mins to an hour of constant severe abdominal pain, sweating (hot then cold), needing to release a bowel movement or feeling like it, shallow breathing, unable to talk, unable to walk, unable to lay down..the only comfortable thing is sitting on the toilet. The feeling of passing out is the worse, though I never pass out. The abdominal pain is so severe, and the area feels very very HOT also. It feels as though something is ripping my organs on the inside of my stomach. Twice I have had to call 911 (or have someone else do it) and another being rushed to the ER -- and much to my dismay, as SOON as I get to the hospital, the pain begins to disppear and then all of a sudden after 45 mins of this attack, I feel NORMAL again. Usually just very tired for the rest of the day and ALWAYS my menstrual cycle begins.

This last time, I was able to get to the ER while the pain was still very much present, dizziness and hypervenilation onset from the extreme pain which only adds to the problem. I got a pelvic ultrasound and the DR. I believe had no idea what the issue was but said he feels I may have had an ovarian cyst rupture, as they did find fluid and a cyst in the ultrasound. i was given Motrin and told to follow up with my OBGYN. I have done some research on Ovarian Cyst Ruptures and while that could be the case, I am wondering if I am getting Cysts every 3 years that seem to rupture after me having a few drinks the evening before and me coming on my menstrual cycle. I then did a search for Hypogylcemic shock -- There were my symptoms in full view. I am also anemic -- so I began to put 2 and 2 together since the doctors always come back empty handed on this. Alcohol lowers blood sugar in the body, and what is hypogylcemia? (Low blood sugar/glucose) -- Mix that with the heavy menstrual cramping I always have on my first day of my period..dehydration and not eating properly in the week leading up to an attack and I believe that is the bad mix.

I notice that in all 3 cases several things remain constant.

1. I was coming on my menstrual cycle
2. I had been drinking the evening before (more than 2 glasses of wine/liquor before going to bed but less than 5, which lowers blood sugar and increases dehydration)
3. I hadn't had a big meal the evening prior
4. I had been very stressed the week leading up.

I believe that this mixture leads to hypogylcemic shock for me. Because yes, there have been times I have had drinks before coming on my cycle but I usually don't overindulge. I am 28 years old and have had these attacks since around 20. My cycles usually ALWAYS fall on a Sunday and I go out the evening before. This time it started on a Friday and I went out for drinks with friends on Thursday evening. I believe I may have overdone it with the alcohol (wine) and not eaten enough the evening before..and the alcohol lowered my blood sugar, adding to that the complications of starting my menstrual cycle and dehydration sent me into hypoglycemic shock.

This is just my self diagnosis from my personal observations over the years.

My daughter was 6 years old when she had her first episode. We have gone through extensive Neurological tests and ruled out "abdominal epilepsy". She is 13 now and has an episode about once a year. As a mother it scares the life out of me. I have been fortunate enough to have been there each time it happens but she had one recently 6 months since her last episode and I wasn't there. Her symptoms before and during sound exactly like all of the other symptoms, Sudden and severe abdominal pain, numbness in her legs, Paleness, shaking, and the urge to have a bowel movement. This is the absoulte pits for a child trying to lead a normal life. She's coping but she has stomach pain daily. We just don't know if it's going to increase in pain that is so severe she passes out. We are seeing a Pediatric GI specialist and he's prescibed, an :'( anti colonic med, and IBS med and now wants us to try a low dose of a mild anti depressant called Amitriptyline. I'm not sure I want my child taking and anti depressant just as she's entering puperty. I'm tempted to try acupunture and a vegetarian diet before the anti depressant. Has anyone gone this route?

When you feel like you have to go to the bathroom and your stomach starts hurting in the strangest way.. shaking badly. Then you get to the bathroom and start feeling dizziness and start sweating and then you (sometimes, in my case only have once) throw up and you hurt so bad you dont know what do to for the unbearable pain.. then you cant move good at all and you're fecal starts coming out all at once like diarrhea and then you (sometimes) passout or come close to it and then its over.(IS THIS WHAT YOU GUYS FEEL?)

The things I do to help when it's happening:
-If you feel it coming on... Quickly (if you can) Drink alot of pepto.
-Have water to drink with you.
-Have a cold soaking wet wash cloth to put over your neck but long enough for it to reach your forehead.
-put a (non wet) towel or wash cloth inbetween your bladder and stomach (top of your bladder)
-lay your head on the sink and have water running.
those things have helped me not actually pass out, i think. So maybe it will help you guys too.

I am only 19 years old, and I've had this for (thank the lord on and off) for a couple years. The first time this happened to me I was probably only 14. My mom has it as well. We call it food poisoning, but I'm thinking that isn't what it is. I've told my doctor about it and so has she and they don't know anything of it. I mean, they are doctors.. it's their jobs.. I know more people have it and i really think that a MD or some kind of doctor should figure it out. Because it's the worse pain in this world, i think.

I've had these symptoms since age 5 and I'm now 54. Been to many neurologists, a few gastroenterologists, a cardiologist. None know what it is and most have never heard another person describe it!! Until 4 years ago, I was dx'ed with seizures, but I decided they were not. I haven't found a DR who even believes in abdominal epilepsy. Anti-convulsants didn't work. Mostly my episodes are at night since I've gotten older. I'm awakened by the pain in my stomach (feels like labor pains)..as a matter of fact when I was in labor with my first child, I thought I was beginning an episode!! I feel like I MUST go to sit on the toilet (habit?) so when I do, the pains continually get worse. I get so hot, I remove all clothing, a wet washcloth helps a lot..if I have time to get one as I have to keep my head almost touching the floor to keep from passing out. My legs are very weak, I can't find a pulse...I begin to have diarreah and sometimes vomit at the same time, all the while praying I won't faint. I have not been able to pinpoint any triggers except steak and then only sometimes. The episodes last between half to one hour. I am totally exhausted by then, but can go back to bed. Sometimes I have them in clusters and usually while under a lot of stress. I've only had to use a public bathroom a few times...which is REALLY stressful! If I just allow myself to pass out, I don't have any more symptoms. Go figure! I have found that gatoraide seems to help and using more salt helps. I don't seem to have them while upping the salt. It's not a poop problem either, that part is a result of getting up and blood pressure plummeting, I think, including the fainting, shaking, hotness, etc. If I lay in bed with the pain and raise my legs sometimes it will go away....but it's really hard to do when the pain is excrutiating, plus it lasts longer. Sorry I don't know the answer, but thought I's share. I did convince my GP to give me Donnatol which if I take immediately when the first pain starts, can stop the episode, but maybe because it knocks me out!!

I'm not sure where to start - after reading the posts above, I'm certainly finding similarities, but nothing that sounds exactly like what's happening.
The first time this happened, I was maybe 9 / 10??...
My stomach hurt so bad, I'm 32 and I remember it like it was a week ago. So, it begins - my stomach begins to hurt like hell. It's usually a combination of sharp pain and nausea. The first few times I can remember (or was told), I vomited and then immediately hit the floor.
The vomiting has not remained consistent, but the extreme stomach pain has. There have also been times when I was a teen that the stomach pain came on in the same way, but I never lost consciousness.
This probably happened every year or two until I was fifteen - it subsided for a few years and then happened when I was 27 and then again a couple of weeks ago at 32.
I thought it was over at 27 (or hoped) but the last time it happened, unlike the other times when I had been standing or leaning over, I was seated. To add fear and insult to injury, I was on a plane. I felt completely sick, I was seated in a window seat and it was an early morning flight - so I had two people sitting to my left that were completely asleep. As I started to become completely nauseous, I was forced to think about that little white bag - I couldn't wake those people up. After about ten minutes of overwhelming nausea, (less painful than previous stomach pain) I started to feel like I was going to pass out. Hello, old friend of tingling, numbing sensation. I was doing my best to talk and breathe myself through it. I breathed through the first sensation of losing consciousness and just as I was confident that I had done the same for the second wave of tingling, I woke up ( I have no idea how many seconds later) disoriented, tired...drained - trying to figure it all out. I had never been seated or on a plane when it happened.
Anyone? I was tested as a kid and had no results. It doesn't happen often enough to be observed, but I'd like to know what this is and if it has any links to something I should be wary of...

I have had this happen to me many of times. It started when i was 12. I get the same pain in my stomack and i get where i cant see anything and then i black out.One night I got up in the middle of the night and blacked out, hit my head on the shower and then came to got up off the floor and sat down blacked out again. This time my sister found me on the floor she said that I was flopping like a fish out of water. she helped me up and I still had to used the bathroom. she tried to make me go to the er, but I wouldnt. I got up the next morning with two black eyes and a bad headache from hitting my head. I still was going to work no matter what happend that night. I was on my way to work when I passed out again driving. when I came to I called my sister and she came and got me and took me to the er. The dr thought that it was epilepsy. They did a eeg and it came out good. I still have these attacks, and still dont know why. i went just two weeks ago and got another eeg done. as always came out good. I think that they are over look where the pain start and that is with my stomack. I have IBS but the dr said that she hasnt ever seen anyone passout from it that there is something elese causing the attacks. Im still getting test done to see what it is. If anyone know of anything please let me know. I have been trying to find out what is wrong for 17 years. Im the only one in my family that does this. It is very scary to me not know when its going to come on.

i have passed out mostly in the bathroom once after taking med's to have a colonoscopy, another time after taking colon cleansers. nearly passing out at other time after rising from bed or climbing stairs. i have had all the test and the neurologist ruled out seizures or eplipsey, and said it was my heart. went to two cardiologists one diagnosied me with having an enlarged heart with a leaky heart but said it was nothing to worry about, got a second opinon after passing out again. this time the cardiologist said i was not getting enough air in my lungs and put me on a inhaler 3xs a day. all of my tireness and out of breath feelings after rising and climbing stairs are not gone. so far i have not passed out anymore either. i was just taling to a friend at church who's father just had lung surgery because he was passing out and for a long time the drs thought it was his heart . go to the cardiologyist and asked them to check you lungs for air. i feel so much better the headaches stopped, shortness of breath and again no passing out. i also use to vomit after nearly or fainting spells and i know how you all feel, my family thought i was dying , nope couldnt breath is all......

The attacks I have feel like food poisoning, (vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach) but I also feel faint and feel like my whole body is on fire. I'm 21 and have only had attacks like this since I was 19, my first one landed me a trip to the hospital as I had passed out 3 TIMES (one of which) busted open my chin. I am not sure what cases them, I do know that I have had sinus infections both times they have been most painful.

I also have anxiety so trying to calm down from these attacks is near impossible because i begin thinking I'm going to die. A lot of what I have noticed is it is brought on by illness and the eating of hamburger. Acid Reflux can cause a lot of these symptoms, mix that with anxiety and you have a recipe for disaster.

I'm going to go to a doctor if I have another attack tonight. I'll let everyone know what they say.

I have experienced (on and off) for about 5 years now an unusual condition that has become more frequent. I will feel a sensation akin to a bloated stomach, followed within minutes by a cramping in my upper stomach which causes a loss of blood to the brain and i feel i am going to pass out. This often happens in succession over a period of hours. I do find some relief if i can either pass gas, or belch. I am very concerned as this has happened while driving. The doctor has recommended OTC gas relief, but i feel something more my be amiss here. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I have fibromyalgia and was also told IBS is a common symptom. I also get the weird dizzy feinting feeling though as yet have never actually passed out. I rarely get full blown diarrhea but its only one step away. I can be sat on the toilet for and hour with excruciating abdominal pain. I tried eating more fiber but that just makes it so much worse. And with it comes heat - I get like a serious hot flush. this can last anything from an hour or so to all day. Afterwards i get cold and very sleepy. My husband thinks I should go in for tests but every-time I've asked a doctor about it they just put it down to my underlying conditions. I have to keep taking days off work its so debilitating

I have had several spells like this in the past and was awoken in the night with bad burning stomach pain. I went in the the restroom and had a bowel movement. I lay down and just became over taken with nausea. I felt like I was going to vomit but didn't, instead I broke out into a cold sweat. I walked in to another room and became so overwhelmed with the feeling of all over body hurt and panic. I felt like I needed to do anything to get relief-vomit, pass out-anything. I felt like I was going to die! Can anybody relate to this feeling? I of course was white as a ghost and unable to move. I began pleading for my husband to help me. I also began to moan in pain-this has never happened since childbirth. I was rushed to the hospital. ALL of my blood work was perfect and also the Cat scan. They said that my bowels were full. But this is not unusual, I have low thyroid and blood pressure and therefore slow digestion. I have an appointment with my Gastroinologist upon the ER doc's suggestion. Can anyone offer help?
