I was stupid enough to refuse to talk to my doctor about pain and occasional bleeding in my anal area. When I finally couldn’t stand it anymore, I went and found out that I had acute anal fissure and that it looked really bad. The surgery is necessary since the doctor estimated that the usual treatment wouldn’t help much. Anyone with the similar experience? Is the recovery after acute fissure surgery painful?

Three weeks from my acute fissure surgery I steel feel extremely strong pain whenever I go to the toilet and try to empty my bowels. My fault was that I didn’t pay enough attention to the food I ate even though I was warned that constipation after this kind of surgery was simply something you didn’t want to go through. I was told before the surgery that lateral sphincterotomy - which is another name for this procedure - is actually cutting the sphincter in order to enable healing of the fissures and that it was 90% successful and all the good things. They forgot to mention the possible infection - I still have an infection which the doctor is treating with aluminum nitrate. They also forgot to mention that there was a 10% chance of reoccurring of the fissures. And I am in those 10% and will probably have to go to another surgery. Again excruciating pain, stool softener, antibiotics... It is very hard to live with anal fissures, but it is equally hard to live after the surgery and be sure that it will never occur again. So don’t raise your hopes too high - all kinds of surprises are possible.

There is nothing normal about bleeding from your anus, if it happens more than once seek help immediately.
