My 16 yr. old daughter has been vomiting since last October 2008...it has been increasing in its abuse since then...she has lost all of her grade 11 year due to the fact that she just cannot stop throwing up...she drinks a tablespoon of fluids and four come up...

We are giving her water, gatorade, ginger ale, juice...maalox...gravol...ranitadine...and many others...and nothing seems to help...she has lost over 20 lbs. She IS being looked after medically...but they are not looking hard enough, IMHO.

At first they believed she was bulimic and tried to send her to a psychiatrist, but that is not her problem...they checked her for pregnancy...then said acid reflux and the latest...she doesn't eat breakfast...NONE of these are the answer and NONE of the medication given to her helps...she has JUST had an upper G.I. done this past week and we are waiting to hear from the results...she does not have a hernia.

She complains of pain in her upper section of her abdomen...she says that everything that goes down, even when it stays, feels like it is sitting at the back of her throat, waiting to expel...all she wants to do is sleep...and when she is awake she is hungry but nothing will stay down...

Does anyone know of Harley's Disease?? Someone told me that she has similar symptons, but for the life of me, I cannot find any reference to this disease anywhere...any answers or direction anyone has to share would be GREATLY appreciated...thank you for your time and consideration in this matter...peace! :-( :-(

I went through something similar with my daughter when she was 15 yo. It took some time but she was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, an autoimmune desease, and ulcers ( 23 so far, not all at the same time) after not being able to hold down food/ liquids for 2 weeks. I took her the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia who have the EE clinic for confirmation and up to date research. http://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/center-pediatric-eosinophilic-disorders#.VVFPw5NjbKE. She underwent extensive allergy testing, food elimination diet, but that did not provide much relief from the daily vomiting. She was home bound due to her condition for half of sophomore year and most of junior year and returned to graduate with her class. The Texas public school system had to provide home schooling, and they were resistant in the beginning, but with the correct documentation it was possible. What I have discovered is most pediatric gastroenterologist are not very familiar with EE, and latest treatment. CHOP doctors changed her meds, and work with her local doctor for renewals and annual GI biopsies/testing reviews. She has to avoid all stress,( not easy for a teenage girl) or she gets very sick. My daughter takes disintegrating oral zofran tablet every day to stop the nausea and vomiting, and gained a little weight back but has lost a total of 36 lbs total. She is 20 yo now, works because it makes her happy and attends college part time for now, and lives at home still. She gets viruses easily, but has learned how to balance her life and stress and her regular doctor sees her the same day she calls whenever she does have a virus or symptoms of one. She now weighs 100 lbs. We have used protein powder shakes to help her put on weight. I hope this helps. It's so difficult when you can't find out what is hurting your child, and the medical field takes their time, getting to the right tests for the correct diagnosis. You should know something from the biopsy results.
