I use baking soda and/or cornstarch for all kinds of things like this. Underarms do well with either, my shoes do great with either also. These 2 absorb bacterial smells superbly.

You can also rub your hair with fabric softener sheets to get out the smell of smoke, particularly useful when you sit in nonsmoking but the smoke wafts over from the bar.
