Hi I had an abortion at 6 weeks on May 11th. The Dr said I did great and everything was fine last Tuesday I woke up with bright red blood on my pad apposed to the dark brown spots I had been getting and freaked. I called my Dr she told me to go to the ER did they told me I was fine and just take a few days off. Took 3 days off of work and did nothing and still bled if I moved it wasn't filling a pad just small areas of bright red but I thought bright red blood was bad? I've got annoying twinge cramps nothing terrible but I'm still worried about these random red spirts..

I was happy I opened this topic up and another one that I found. I got my abortion today, actually, around 4 pm. I don't know how other states operate and what their policies are but in LA you're required to take this medicine to "soften" the cervix three hours prior to the actual surgical procedure and it caused a lot of clots to come out. After getting the abortion, I didn't bleed much but then on the way home I had to stop at a CVS to get my meds. When I got out of the car I felt this HUGE gush. It happened like three times while I was waiting in line. I even ended up bleeding all over my mother-in-laws seat of her car (no I will not apologize for TMI, we're women. We know how it is). I ended up having to change my pad around 6:30 pm and 8:50 pm. There was quite A LOT of blood. I'll be honest, I had several panic attacks because everything I read was saying "RUN TO THE DAMN ER IMMEDIATELY IF YOU BLEED TOO MUCH" but I ended up calming down and talking to my mother as well as my mother-in-law who both seemed to be like "Well, ya did just get a baby sucked out of there. You're probably going to bleed a lot for a little bit and have a lot of clots for a little while." Fortunately, none of my clots were bigger than a quarter. But, I am still bleeding heavily. I'm going to call the clinic tomorrow and ask them what their opinion is and if they think I should see a doctor. But, I guess my main point is...no point in freaking out ladies. We underwent a pretty drastic thing and our bodies need time to heal. Panicking is only gonna make everything worse. Again, really happy I found this thread. Made me realize I wasn't the only one freaking out and that I wasn't alone :) good luck!

It depends on whether you've had a surgical or medical abortion as they are both very different methods and have different side effects. I had a surgical abortion 5 days ago now. I have had on and off 'period' like episodes but I had to have a sick day yesterday because I passed a huge blood clot in the morning and it seemed to cause me a lot of pain afterwords I was in agony & no tablets were working so just fell asleep and felt much better afterwards. My blood is now nearly black so it must be 'old blood' that's being flushed out. My aftercare booklet says bleeding can happen for 1-2 weeks after an abortion so I think if it's longer than that definitely ring the helpline in your booklet or see your doctor. I'm very worried about the blood clots as they don't feel nice to pass when you use the toilet :( just trying to get lots of rest xxx
