Hi, my 4 year old boy has runny nose, high temperature and headache. The doctor gave him paracetamol, nasal spray and said that if the symptoms don’t go away, he would have to do air-fluid level measuring in sinuses. What is this procedure like?

Sinus infections are very often in small children, since their immune system is not developed yet. Your child may have sinusitis, but to confirm the assumption the doctor would have to do more research by performing x-ray filming. The patient is being putted in Waters position to get a picture of air-fluid level on x-ray film. This is very acute method in giving a diagnose. Your child may develop infections of other organs around sinuses like ears (otitis media) or even meningitis. Perhaps antibiogram will also be requested to decide which antibiotic would be the most appropriate for treating the infection.
