I am currently 19 years old, but when I was just 7, I was diagnosed and treated for acute myelogeous leukemia (AML). Don't quote me on the spelling. Anyways, I had full body radiation and a bone marrow transplant. Although I was told it was unlikely I would even get my menstrual cycle without hormones, I have been getting it almost regularly since I was 13. My doctor still says that it is highly unlikely that I will be able to get pregnant on my own when I decide to. I have recently become sexually active and would like to take birth control to ensure that I don't become pregnant when I need to focus on school and such, but am worried if it will have an effect. Can the hormones in the pills mess with my body enough to make my body stop menstruating on its own because of the treatments I went through? I am really worried because I really want to have kids in the future, but would like to be as safe as possible to prevent accidents now.
Hi Melody, As far as I know, there really isn't anything that you can do to become infertile from birth control, and I don't think that you are running any risk there. If you want to be certain then contact your doctor but as far as I can tell you'll be fine. Did someone tell you you'd become infertile on BC?
