WOW! I thought I was the only one who had this problem! (sorry but...) Im kind of selfishly happy that Im not alone :-S It is so strange when I read someones "ritual" and see it is either the same or very very similar to mine. I have to agree about praying! It sounds strange but it is sooooo true!! And I read how some of you nibble saltines very very slowly and small sips of water.....exactly what I do! But what really shocked me and prompted me to post here.....the bit about laying on your left side with your head slightly elevated! It really blew my mind when I read that someone else does that and finds relief from it the same way I do!! Its crazy!!! I want to tell you all something, and being that its online I suppose I can post it without worry of embarrassment (thank God for the internet!). Okay heres my little story and my little tip that may help someone: I am always nauseous in the early mornings as well as late evenings (sometimes wee hours of the mornings as well, actually, quite often during those hours). I do not have a very good diet, I dont eat well due to my nauseousness (?is that a word?) and also I have dental problems (most likely due to the constant vomiting I used to do). The embarrassing part is that due to my poor diet (im assuming?) I hardly ever had (or have) bowel movements. Ive had x-rays on my stomach before (for an unrelated problem...kidney stones) and my doctor told me he could not get a good view because I was so backed up....I thought that odd because I did not feel backed up at all...not AT ALL! That was years before my nauseousness began but that info fell right into my discovery....During one of my nausea fits I ended up vomiting....and the bad part of me vomiting is that when I do vomit, it will last for at least 24 hours, usually closer to 48 hours....it is a nightmare let me tell you! first vomiting with no relief from the nauseous feeling and then when my stomach is completely empty, I will dry heave for the remaining hours....its so awful and I think a lot of times when I begin to feel even the slightest bit of nausea, just the thought of that "sadistic ritual" makes me so upset from fear (and nerves) of it happening again that I end up making my situation worse (I know this because if I can somehow manage to calm myself down the feeling will subside just a bit). Anywho...during one of my nauseous episodes I was laying on a chaise lounge (which luckily for me is elevated at the head), on my left side ( ;-) ), with a barrel aside of the lounge to drive heave into (gross I know, sorry). When I have one of these "fits" I will use a feminine pad or something because, due to my age and having given birth 4 times (3 living one passed, God rest his sweet soul :'( ) with the pressure from dry heaving I sometimes "pee" a bit (another embarrassing bit of info and here comes the most embarrassing part......). On this particular day during one of my episodes I happened to have the pad in place but also newspaper underneath my entire body (thank God!) and during one of my dry heaves I was "heaving" so so hard that.....I had a bowel movement! (very embarrassing...again, thank God for the net) anyhow, this wasnt just any bowel movements! This was the MOTHER of all bowel movements! I will not get too descriptive (or else you all will become nauseous!) but the odor was VERY bad! It was just a horrendous experience all around....but!!!.......I INSTANTLY felt 100% better! The nausea went away! Dry heaving instantly stopped! I felt so well I got right up (first to clean up the mess I'd made that saved me from several additional hours of nausea and dry heaving)....I felt literally reborn! I can not exaggerate enough how well I felt! It was crazy!! This experience, along with the memory of that X-ray years earlier, helped me to come to a conclusion! I began taking stool softeners daily and laxatives weekly (I found if I take laxatives too much the large amount of bowel movements it causes actually makes me feel very nauseous while I am "going", which is why I cut back on them to weekly doses). This has really really cut back on the actual vomiting part (I do still vomit occasionally but the occurrence has been seriously cut back). Sadly though, I do still get nauseous about 4 out of 7 days but the decrease in actual vomiting is a dream come true! The only thing better would be if it would stop all together. Anyhow, I have not gone to the doctors, only because I'm an id**t and a chicken, I used to work as a Medical Assistant at a day surgery office and witnessed first hand the "tests" they do to check for problems with your bowels etc... I wont explain them here in case someone has to have them done, I do not want to deter anyone and put them in the same stupid position as I am in. I have found, if it has been even a few days since I've had a bowel movement, I will be very sick. Suppositories have become a staple in my home. I believe I may have some sort of blockage or something? although that doesn't really make sense because I am actually able to have a bowel movement so I guess it cannot be a blockage?? I wonder if its just like a clogged drain, water does drain but very slowly...maybe I have gook built up....like on that commercial for colon cleanse?? I don't really know....but I thought this very embarrassing bit of info may help someone out there who is suffering with the nausea like I (and all of you) do. If my humiliating story can help anyone at all then its worth it. Hopefully you will be smarter than me and go to the doctors and get the test(s) done and get yourself better. The best of luck to all of you! Happy tummy wishes to everyone!!
